We have stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions and find the staff first rate, whilst some of the comments on here regarding the hotel being a bit tired I would agree, however it is clean and the breakfast is first rate you wont find a better one in Blackpool. I meet up 3-4 times a year with friends and we always stay at the Chequers as it is convenient for all parties we have dinner out (Saturday last it was Thais) and return for a few drinks in the bar where prices are as good as you will get in most pubs in the area. It is well worth a visit!

Room tip: I have found rooms on the 3rd floor to be the most comfortable

Staff at reception efficient and friendly, breakfast waitress same and food average.
However the room was very disappointing.Stains on ceiling, wallpaper hanging off walls, radiator did not work but main problem was bed, most uncomfortable ever slept in.Mattress had more lumps and bumps than Himalayas.
Good point was that even though lots of Stag/Hen party booking in as we did, we were not troubled with noise, and did not encounter any problems with them.

Room tip: we had side/sea view on top floor and room was quiet.

I was in room 306 a single room with a sea view. Next to the lift, but never heard any noise whatsoever. My daughter was in 305 another single sea view room, not next door but only through the fire door (a few seconds away). Both rooms were lovely and warm, beds ok, pillows a bit hard for my taste but everything was clean and a bath with shower and plenty of hot water. 305 only had a shower. The checkinn and all service was very good, our early dinner (so we could go to a show) was lovely-as was the breakfast next morning. I would definately be very happy to stay here again. We were on a National Holiday so very pleasantly surprised with this hotel.

Room tip: Single rooms 305 and 306 were on the sea view- both warm-adequate window openings

Firstly I will say this hotel is a bit tired for decor and the rooms could do with an upgrade. However that said it is a perfectly acceptable hotel and doesn't deserve the one star some people have given it. The rooms are warm, beds are comfy and the staff are hard working. I would especially compliment Wilf in the dining room who worked his socks off to serve our large coach party. He was polite and efficient and a real asset to the hotel. Overall you get what you pay for. The chequers isn't 5 star luxury but doesn't claim to be. It offers good value for money and I think those who give it ridiculously low scores should remember they are not paying for top class accommodation. if they want that book into tgr Hilton and pay their prices! Chequers you are doing ok....

Thank you for taking the time write such a great and honest review. All the staff appreciate it when their hard work and dedication is acknowledged. I will pass your comments on to them.

We also feel that the Hotel offers good value for money and refurbishment is ongoing, with many of the rooms been redecorating some of the bedrooms unfortunately are having to wait until the season becomes quieter as it is not possible to remove rooms during the busy holiday season. Hopefully you will be able to stay in one of the new refurbished rooms should you stay with us again.

It was lovely to have you staying here at the Chequers Plaza and we hope to see you again in the future.

The hotel was booked as part of a coach trip. It was clean and the accommodation was basic but adequate. The food was ok (mostly frozen), and the service from the waiting staff was good.

The managers, however, were awful. On arrival, we were bossed about and treated as though we were on a school trip. One couple had problems with the (rather rickety) lift, and the duty manager snapped at them and spoke in a disrespectful and rude manner. As we were checking out, someone wanted to pay for a souvenir (as advised by a member of staff) and the same manager was rude again, saying in a very patronising tone 'You can see how I'm fixed - I am checking people out. You will have to wait!'. Really rude and embarrassing. In both cases, the guests concerned were older people, and the impression was that she (the manager) found them irritating.

One evening, a different manager wanted all guests to move to the dining area rather than sit in the (more comfortable) bar. This turned out to be because he had sent home 2 members of staff (presumably on zero hours contracts) and couldn't be bothered to service both areas.

Everything was organised for the convenience of staff rather than guests. Dinner had to be booked (ie meals chosen) at breakfast time, and nobody got served until everyone was seated. We were instructed to be on time for service at 6.00pm (far too early to eat an evening meal), but didn't get starters until after 6.30.

The entertainment was bingo and a comedian/singer. This sort of thing is a matter of taste; but many guests commented that the jokes were dated, sexist and borderline racist.

The rooms were very hot, my hairdryer didn't work, a deposit was required to get a TV remote, and our coach was delayed on our exit because someone hadn't paid for his newspaper! The showers were cold (not lukewarm - cold), and the lift was out of order for part of the weekend.

Overall, the attitude of the senior staff, and the general ambience was more akin to a school trip than to a hotel with paying guests. Given the fact that Blackpool is struggling as a resort, a bit more effort would not have gone amiss. The young bar and waiting staff were very helpful, however.

Room tip: Noise travels from the entertainment on the ground floor, so higher rooms are quieter, but the lift is erratic.

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that the cleaning of the hotel and restaurant service were to your standard. I noticed you were part of a coach group and therefore would of been checked in as a group booking, it is not our intention to make you feel you were on a school trip. I am disappointed to read some of your other comments as they are not a true reflection of the hotel. We do not have duty or different managers at the hotel that you refer to and can only apologise if you felt the staff concerned did come across unprofessional at any time. Although you were able to buy souvenirs that morning we do not usually sell them at busy check out times as not to hold up other guests departing on the coaches, you did say yourself you had to wait for someone to pay for the newspaper they ordered. You mentioned frozen food, I would like to know what you were referring to as our chefs cook fresh produce as much as possible at the hotel (hence having to pre-order your meals).
A decision was made to use the dining room one evening due to the high number of guests in the hotel and not enough room in the bar. This is the reason we have dinner at 6.00pm as we do sometimes use the dining room for entertainment. On that evening the entertainer received many good comments I will however pass yours on to him.
