Just home from a stay at the Cliffs Hotel. Last time we stayed my review was not good so l thought it only fair to tell you about this visit. Our room was on the 1st floor sea view lovely, nice and clean and very warm had to turn heating off .Restaurant service very much better our waiter Ainars very attentive and competent. Entertainment excellent with one or 2 new acts. Café bar very good as always staff helpful and always pleasant. Only disappointment was the pool ,one person thought it was clever to sit on side throwing ball over our heads to his son could have hit my 5year old granddaughter or anyone else we did move but the ball was everywhere we got out ask an attendant if they should be doing that his comment was they're only having fun l replied its not fun for everyone else he said he have a word but they were on holiday to enjoy themselves l said so are we However this did not spoil our holiday we just accepted some people are selfish.. We will be back so well done Cliffs for all else. .

Room Tip: We love the sea view rooms so would recommend paying the extra for one

Friendly, clean and good food. If the car park is full there is ample on road parking nearby. Free wi-fi in café/lounge. Do not forget to join the Choice Loyalty Club whilst at the hotel, the points do build up and the drinks seem to make you happier when you have paid for them with the choice vouchers.

Room Tip: Some rooms do get warm, but a fan is provided

We have just returned home from the Bank Holiday Weekend at the Cliffs Hotel. This was our 4th visit over the past two years - and again we have no complaints! We had the same room as our last visit - which is amazing! I always ask for a 1st floor family room because it has a 'partition'/half wall in the room to separate the bunk beds from the double bed section in the room! This is excellent with children aged 9 and 12 yrs, as they are still wanting to be in a room with us - but gives us all a little privacy too! Great value for what you pay here - seriously! The pool, jacuzzi and sauna were well used during the day as we always do .
'The Base' Childrens' club is brilliant! My son Oliver looks forward to seeing Edward the Children's entertainer every time we go! He organises activities and plays with the children all day and evening until 10pm. This is really great for parents to be able to relax and watch the evening cabaret. The hotel will miss Edward when he leaves to go to University in September! Good luck Edward!

Room Tip: Family rooms don't have any views - but room 145 has a great layout for parents/teenagers in one...

Stayed few days prior to Bank Holiday weekend, no complaints whatsoever, room, food and service all excellent. Yes the Hotel is a little out of town but you know that before you arrive and because it is it has its advantages, ie, no disturbances or noise from late night revellers. Would recommend to anyone, if you're going to Blackpool and don't mind the walk to town or the shops (there is a regular tram service just outside the door anyway), give the Cliffs a try, you won't be disappointed

The Cliffs is part of the Choice Hotels group of Blackpool and Lake District hotels - and in our opinion the best choice! We have stayed at the others in Blackpool (Viking and Claremont) and this year tried the Cliffs. We liked it so much that we quickly booked again, this time taking our two grandsons (5 and 9). Our large family room had a double and two single beds, and a good size bathroom - all recently refurbished and clean. Down to the pool - water a good temperature, smaller than the boys expected - but the youngest was happy he could stand up in the shallower end and soon found the confidence to swim further, the eldest was most impressed with the depth of the deep end and both liked their try in the adjacent jaccuzzi. A small cafe/bar overlooks the pool and has free wifi. Also in the basement area is "The Zone" . This has space for 5-a-side footy, soft play and supervised activities for the youngsters. There are large screen tvs, table tennis, games machines and a separate room for teenagers. Although we stayed with the boys whilst they enjoyed a kick about and then table tennis, many of the children were on their own - presumably their parents had confidence in the staff supervising the area and certainly the children had confidence being there, it was their "Zone".
Having worked up an appetite it was time to eat, and here is our only criticism of the Cliffs. We felt that mealtimes were a little late for the children. On our first stay (midweek) the evening meal was served from 5.30 but with the boys at the weekend it was 6.30. Only an hour, but it made a difference for the younger diners present. As for the food, we were impressed with the choice and the quality (and the amounts that some people had). The serve yourself arrangement was ideal for the boys who could always find something special that they liked and something new to try.
Venturing out of the hotel, bus and tram stops are right there, with a frequent service to get you easily into town to the main attractions, the conductor helpfully suggesting the best value ticket option and no problems parking when we arrive. So many attractions in Blackpool but one of the many memorable ones for us is just over the road and across the tramlines from the Cliffs - the man made "cliffs" down to the promenades (there are more than one) and the beach. Just as they had for grandad when he was a lad, the boys were soon finding a bit of "mountaineering" irresistable. The steep, hairpin descent needs the boys keeping in close rein but there are lots of opportunities to scale a boulder or traverse a ledge without too much danger (others may disagree but the boys loved it). Then, finally, you get to the beach itself - miles of it to do as you wish. This is a different Blackpool to the one that most of the critical visitors have experienced. No queues, crowds, stag or hen parties just sand and sea - and a short climb back to the hotel when everyone has had enough, or more likely when the tide comes in!
Back in the hotel I should mention the large lounge area with bar facing the front and ideal for watching the spectacular sunsets or playing a board game (or with free wifi for the modern solo versions). Also the cabaret lounge where the evening starts with a short (and well organised) childrens disco followed by the adult entertainers (a different comedian or vocalist every night). There is also an extended "happy hour" with reduced price drinks (although regular prices are quite reasonable). Throughout the hotel all the staff are very friendly and unstressed, keen to please but relaxed, confident and experienced, a pleasure to be with. The hotel itself is well looked after with an ongoing refurbishment programme. It is clean and well managed. Lastly, the parking - you might be one of the lucky minority who finds a slot in the hotel car park but this is a hotel built before everyone arrived by car. More likely you will have to find a space on the adjacent streets - this is free and unrestricted and we had no problem slotting in nearby. Just don't park illegally as the traffic enforcement officers in Blackpool are renowned for their enthusiasm.
The Cliffs frequently have special offers that give great value for money and they have their own reward scheme to encourage repeat visits - something that our youngest grandson will appreciate as he has now announced that he is going to save all his pennies so he can bring mum and dad to the Cliffs for his very special 6th birthday celebration, his dream holiday.

Room Tip: You may hear some noise from the cabaret lounge if you are on the first floor - we did but did not f...

The Cliffs Hotel is a short drive to the north of the North Pier, well positioned on the seafront with onsite parking for a few cars, plus surprisingly off-street parking available in the vicinity at no charge. Another benefit of this hotel is that it has its own tram stop, just across the road from the hotel, making it easy to stay in a nice area of Blackpool, yet have easy transport links into the centre of town. Handy!

We booked the hotel for two nights via the hotel’s call centre which serves all of the hotels operated by the Choice Hotels Group. The call centre operator was very helpful, talked us through the options and let us book directly over the phone. Since we were booking rooms for late April, this meant that we were allowed to book for a single night, whereas from May until the end of the Illuminations in November, the hotel has a “minimum two night stay” policy. A pity but understandable since that is when it makes its money.

We took the rather small and jittery lift up to the third floor and the two sea view rooms we had booked. One room, 332, was spacious, modern and very smart indeed with a lovely bathroom, a bright colour scheme, modern furnishings and a double window sea view.

The second room 330 was smaller, and although nicely decorated with a large Freeview TV had a tatty old wooden wardrobe with mismatching hangers (n.b. extra pillows were tucked away in here), a sea view out of a small grubby window, and a very narrow unappealing bathroom with a badly stained bath and a bizarre two-tone colour scheme – the bathroom suite was ostensibly white but the toilet seat was a murky mustard. Very odd, not very pleasant and crying out for refurbishment. Both rooms included a hairdryer but we found just one plug per room.

We decided to explore the hotel before dinner and the bar area was large, airy and bright with lovely views of the sea and the sunshine. The indoor pool was small and busy but few hotels in Blackpool feature one so this is a definite benefit to holidaymakers who enjoy a swim.

Dinner is a very relaxed and pleasant experience. On arrival at the restaurant, guests are escorted to a table which they’ll use for all meals for the duration of their stay. We asked to avoid the tables in direct sunlight as dining there would have been very warm. A member of the hotel team invites guests to order drinks, whereupon guests are able to take advantage of the excellent buffet options, ranging from a choice of soups through to salads, breads and cold meats. Main course is selected from a menu including several tasty options, ordered from the staff member and then served at the table. Dessert is then available from the buffet and includes options such as ice cream, cakes and fruit. Food is plentiful, impeccably presented and offers a broad choice to cater for all palettes.

There is a bar area opposite the main entrance, through a set of doors, and to the left of this room, through another set of doors is the area where the nightly entertainment takes place. We enjoyed the singer very much and fact that this is provided at no additional cost for all guests staying in the hotel is another big plus.

After a very good night’s sleep – no noise whatsoever – we returned to the dining room for breakfast and once again there was an excellent choice on offer, ranging from bread and cereals to cold meats and “Full English” ingredients.

Despite the limitations of one of our rooms, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and heartily recommend The Cliffs to all prospective guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a modernised room and high floor. Sea view rooms cost a few pounds extra per night but best...
