The staggered mealtimes worked very well - better than in previous years. ~We thought the meals were better than last year and there was a good choice. Room service was excellent.
The entertainment did not cater for the the age group (mostly retired people) - some people may be a bit deaf but didnt need deafening! However we had a great 5 days and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to our friends.

We enjoyed our 4 days at this hotel. The location is great being only a 5 minute stroll to the tower or towns stores. On arrival we were given the 5pm slot in the dining room but we asked for the later time and it was no trouble. Our room was a bit small and next time I will take more time looking at the options when we book. The dining was buffet dining and the food was always to our liking. A good choice at Breakfast and evening meal with choice of hot or cold at both of these. The dining room staff were very pleasant and if asked would go and get the food for you. As most of the residents arrived on coaches it meant there was always room in the car park, not sure if this would be the case in August. The evening entertainment was only average and had bingo every night. This was not our taste but it was only a short stoll to plenty of other entertainment places. The North Pier being the nearer only a couple of minutes away. All in all it was a pleasant 4 nights and we would use this chain and hotel again, as I said next time we will have a better room.

Room Tip: make sure you do not book a standard club room

Stayed in this hotel Friday to Monday. It was a break for my aunt and I, the first room we were given was nice but rather small. I asked reception if there was anything a little bigger. I was given the option of another one on the 3rd floor. It was enormous overlooking the beach, absolutely lovely. We were also given a complimentary bottle of wine. My aunt and I travel all over the world but I really must say that the treatment we received at The Grand Metropole was better than a lot of 5 stars. A special thank you must go to Jenny in the restaurant, she was great and was very attentive to our needs. The food we had was nothing really fancy but it was very good - you could have fruit juice, soup, main course and a large selection of desserts both hot and cold. Then we went in for the entertainment. This consisted of a game of bingo (if you wanted) then a quizz followed by the caberet which was of a very good standard. All I can say is that this was a really lovely weekend and we will certainly be going back. Thank you once again Grand Metropole

Room Tip: Just be pleasant to the staff and in return they .

as has been said on other reviews it is a shambles trying to even get into the hotel with roadworks and closed roads. the sat nav had a nervous breakdown in the end and we gave up trying to use it. finally parked, we got our key from a 'couldnt care less staff member' who vaguely pointed in the direction of the lifts. we passed a motorbility scooter park on our left, all plugged in for the many very elderly people there. the tiny lifts which smelt of urine took us up to our 2nd floor inward facing alcatraz style room no. 276. . this was supposedly an upgraded room according to the dinner ticket. haha!!! the dark airless room was barely clean, the tv had an 8 inch screen and the lumpy small double bed rocked when sat on.. the bunk beds (why we were given a room with bunk beds lord only knows) were through an alcove. the bathroom was large and clean apart from the broken toilet seat, and the the spa bath looked lovely. the problem was we didnt have any towels for 2 days and no hot water for a day and a half so couldnt make use of this one nice thing. the putrid smell of huge streaks of pigeon poo on the windows along with the rattling air con unit next to the window(for the rooms downstairs im assuming) a horrendous experience and stopped us opening the window at all. i returned to the receptionist to be told cant move us. non refundable and elderly hotel. oh well that was helpful! dinner was a joke with the lets go round the carousel game. . some of the other guests were fingering the food and picking out the best bits. some put food back and waited till the fresh stuff came out, dumping what they had on there plates back in. it was barely warm and certainly was catering for the very old and disabled guests(wafer thin cuts of meat, overcooked soft veg and chips or boiled pots). the breakfast was little better than a greasy joe, dried up sausages and soggy toast. You had to pratically beg to get a tea or coffee pot, and forget cutlery or napkins. get them yourself by wandering round other tables. the other fun game was 'see whats on my table when i get back'. as the staff were not really interested in clearing tables, you would go the get some food and find other guests had piled up there dirty plates on your table when you got back. you in turn would then shove them onto the next one, taking there knives and forks...you see this was a fun game!. bingo was on offer for those who wanted a fab night in. we chose to walk along the construction site/ promonade looking at the many closed premises. the tower was being refurbished as was the water park and indeed anything else there it seems. i was sadly disappointed. good point.....had 2 days of sunshine where we could sit by the sea and reflect on our holiday.

Room Tip: ask for outward facing room if u dare to stay

The building is stunning from the outside, the reception area does take your breath away.... it end there. The lift is a hovel, the corridors need a good clean and paint.... the no smoking area stunk of smoke. The room was dinky but nicely decorated but the bathroom!! OMG you couldnt sit on the toilet because the wall and bath stopped you from plonking your bottom down!!
The restaurant closed at 9pm with no biscuits or offers of room service... 1 tea bag in room!
the breakfast was awful, the staff (baring one poor individual) were rude, even being nasty and spiteful to a child who dropped his jam on the table.
the cooking stopped at 9.10am despite being told it was possible to have any cooked item up until 10am.... the jam & marmalade were from a catering tin and just dumped into a bowl, not even mixed to make it look nice.... revolting. All the food was cold and greasy and the toast soggy too.
we could have put up with all of that had the reception staff not been SO rude on our arrival.... my husband was ready to walk out and pay for another hotel room he was so angry.
we will never stay there again, recommend it to anyone and it has put us off ever visiting Blackpool again.

Room Tip: dont book one!
