“Cutbacks!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2014 via mobile

My partner and myself have just spent our third New Year at the Metropole....this time last year I gave 4 stars sadly this year it's three.
We kept the same room we always have, it was clean and toasty warm .... as was the rest of the hotel....plus we had a powerful shower with beautiful hot water.
Now let's talk cutbacks as there were plenty of them!
Three years ago the entertainment was fantastic....just check out the poster on the outside of the hotel advertising dazzling cabaret! We remember when dancing girls in sequins and feathers did grace the hotels ballroom but not anymore, the only show this time featured enthusiastic dancers in tired costumes with not a sequin in sight ...cutbacks! Perhaps the poster needs to be taken down so as not to give the wrong impression.
The hotel could have saved themselves a fortune on printing out the New Years itinerary as hardly any of it happened.... there was only one show as the one on New Years Day didn't materialise and neither did the quizzes .... the same singer appeared for two nights running and on New Years Eve at 10.30 pm after a 20 minute slot she shot of the stage like a whippet on lino never to be seen again... that was it... and at 10.45 pm it was cd's all the way til midnight! Sorry more cutbacks!
So finally to the Worrall restaurant which to us has always been a quiet little oasis.... not anymore.... the two waitresses have been reduced to one and when she wasn't moaning about how tired she was she couldn't half throw the clean metal cutlery into a metal tray from a great height!
The New Year Gala Dinner...this year without crackers or wine or even a paper hat....was hot but nothing gala about it whatsoever ..... Sorry even more cutbacks!
So will we return to see in 2015? If the chairs in the ballroom are replaced with new thicker padded ones for those boring waits wondering if the bingo queue will ever end well maybe we will.....it all depends on those cutbacks!

Stayed from 27th to 30th December 2013.
Weve been coming to this hotel for betwixmas for 10 years and the food and accomadation has allways been satisfactory and in my mind good value for money. However this year we found that the choice of meals were very limited, with one morning the breakfast cold and this is in the upgraded Worrall restaurant. The entertainment was quite good but unfortunatey didnt start till 9.00p.m.which is a long time to wait in the concert room on uncomfortable seating.
Overall I still thought it was fair value for money, but on leaving and prepared to book for next year we were told the price had increased by 33%. This was a scandalous increase and therefore
represented very poor value for money,Consequently we will be looking for alternative accomodation for next year.

Having stayed at the 2 star Grand Metropole, Blackpool for our tenth Christmas in a row I have, after having had a couple of years when things were not as good as when we first went, to report that I do believe the Management are listening to their regular visitors and are making an effort to improve in the appropriate area where concerns have been raised in the past.
What first time visitors must remember is, that it is a two star hotel, and just because its big that
does not mean it is a four or five star rated hotel, and this Christmas we were more content that we were getting fair value for our money, though still not as it was back in 2005 when there were events on throughout the day over the five day (23rd to 27th) festive break.
We have no complaints over the standard of the meals, if we wanted "a la carte" then we would stay in a Hotel that has such a menu, though this year I would have to say menu variety was not as varied as in years past, but the food was tasty.
Our room was comfortable, and is the same room we have had now for about five years, our only grumble with hotel bedrooms (at all Hotels we have stayed in) is the size of the wardrobe,
especially when you are staying for more than three or four nights.
Entertainment over the festive break was an improvement on last year, though I do believe the
shows had all been seen before, but possibly done better this year.
As a positive we have already pre booked for Xmas 2014

Room Tip: Sea View are better, and if you have been before and liked your room then ask for the same room for...

This a lovely hotel, in a prime position for the Blackpool attractions although the pleasure park is a good walk. Parking costs £3 a day , hotel is easy to find. We found all staff polite and helpful, the food was nice with ample choice, we stayed for one night on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal for £47 this was excellent value for money. Yes the hotel does look a little tired in places , but is spotlessly clean and has some beautiful features

Stayed at this hotel Sunday 5 jan. What can I say. Arrived. There to be greeted by a very ignorant women on the desk. She informed us that we couldn't check in till 3 pm. It was 2.50. But no we had to go to the bar for ten minutes. Are rooms weren't ready. Even though there was on 30 people in the hotel!! The bar was filthy we had to wait 5 mins to be served. By the chief may I say ,hotel room was very basic. But cleaner than the bar!!! Had evening dinner,it was buffet style, all the food was pre cooked garbage it was worst than school dinners,we had to avoid the rain which was coming through the ceiling not dripping but pouring in,decided to eat out and left. All in all this hotel is in need off massive improvements

Room Tip: Sea view if u can

Just returned from a 3 night New Year break costing £239 each with National Holidays. If you enjoy being called ‘mate’ by dining room staff and waiters and poor service, if you like dining tables packed together, no cloths and transport caff style sugar dispensers, long queues for food then this is for you. The hotel has been nicely refurbished with good bedrooms and public rooms. The staff and management need to be similarly refurbished or replaced

The worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Furniture falling apart in bedroom and very old and lacking any padding in public areas. Bird excrement on bedroom and bathroom windows. Woken by bird noise at 5.00am. Woken throughout the night by hammering due to air lock in water system. Inedibly dinners served on several occasions, others very poor. Buffet style, displayed in metal school dinner trays. Complaints received by staff in an off-hand manner with no results. Breakfasts were edible, although not wonderful. Evening entertainment was acceptable, although not brilliant. Location was good.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel.
