“Clean, value for money, good location - cracking breakfast”
Reviewed 25 May 2009

Ticked all the boxes for what we were looking for.. it was value for money and couple of streets away from the hustle and bustle AND most importantly it was clean. I went with some male friends and we were warmly greeted. The breakfast we were offered the next morning was just the ticket to get the day started after a couple of shandys the night before. I would use this hotel again. Although we went to Blackpool for a weekend break visiting the local watering holes I would say this is a quiet hotel and not ideal for stag do's - which was great for us as we are apparantly 'quiet drunks!!'
Thanks

Very pleasant hosts. Lovely food. Clean and tidy rooms. Central for everthing. We had a good weekend and will be back. We like the idea of catering for older people and no hen nights or stag groups and best of all no children! Would recommend to everyone wanting to get away for a break.

It was so nice to welcome you at our hotel, wintertime and Blackpool seems to be asleep, but there is still so much to do! We felt honoured to hear your compliments, you were hoteliers yourselves and know what you are talking about! You visited us while the decorators are around. All rooms freshly painted, new bedding is introduced; all efforts to stay up to date and keep the welcoming atmosphere that we are so proud of.
We are surely please to be your hosts again!

The owners are a lovely couple very friendly and helpful. The food id excellent, good choice and well cooked. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well equiped. The whole package is excellent value for money and the most important thing when staying in blackpool in January WARM. It is in a very quiet area and the bed is very comfortable. You also get free wireless access to the internet so you can keep in touch with the world.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone without hesitation.

What a pleasure it was to see you here for the second time! You told us how happy you were with the free Wireless Internet Access. We have just redesigned our menu and it is nice to see the very first person enjoy it so much. On our hospitality trays we aim to serve various hot drinks and the ever so comforting biscuit. Hot chocolate to warm the frozen bones afetr a hard days work! and a warm bed to have the deserved rest. We are already looking forward to the next January, to see you back to prune the roses of Stanley Park!

I have just returned from Blackpool after staying best part of a week at the Novello Hotel.

The owners, Robert and Fransje, were very welcoming on our arrival with complimentary tea and biscuits being served whilst simultaneously advising on car parking arrangements. The car park turned out to be literally at the end of the road.

The rooms we booked were both very clean and presentable and benefited from Freeview and other mod cons which you would normally only expect to see in a much larger hotel.

I'd booked half board and this is where Robert really came into his element. Good home cooked traditional food from a varied menu selection each day which suited my mother down to the ground. For those with other tastes there was plenty to choose from the menu each day. The breakfast was faultless each day as well.

Robert and Fransje were both very helpfull throughout our stay and were good hosts.

The hotels location is ideal for everthing really with the main shopping area and Coral Island a minutes walk away. The hotel does however benefit from being far enough away to allow a good nights sleep and avoid the main noise of Blackpool nightlife.

I'd recommend this hotel to all my family and friends as it forms the basis of a really enjoyable stay at Blackpool even in the Winter.

thank you so much for this compliment.
We enjoyed your stay here as well. It is a pleasure to see when guests appreciate our traditional as well as 'modern' dishes. We do our best to keep the house in good condition. You will be pleased to see the upgrades that are in progress on the third floor! In this new year we keep the rates moderate to enable senior citizens to afford to come to Blackpool. And you will still get quality for your money!
We look forward to seeing you here again in December!

Myself and my husband and our two friends have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Novello.

And yes my husband and me did stay in room 12A, after having read the review saying that 12 A was a bit of a mess, I expressed my concerns by e mail, on arrival I was offered the choice of 2 rooms but I could not see a problem with 12A at all, the spliiting wallpaper on the ceiling was hardly noticeable, in fact it was not splitting, it is merely a join where the wallpaper had been put up, believe me I know my husband is a painter and decorator.
However I wonder what the previous reviewer was doing inspecting ceilings and looking for damp patches, there is more to do in Blackpool than that.
The view from the window was not the best, as it faces the back but the upside of that was that we were not disturbed by the noise from the front of the hotel on Saturday night as there were a lot of stag and hen nights in Blackpool over this last weekend.
The breakfast was fine, perfectly cooked, and included in the price of £25 per person per night.
We did see a lot of the lady owner and found her to be very pleasant indeed.
The only 2 comments I have to make is that they really should do something about the pipe hammer in 12A and there did not seem to be a bar as such, just the sale of cans at £2.20.
But hey ! there are plenty of bars in Blackpool to say the least.
I did find it more than slightly embarrasing to witness two ladies being asked to pack their bags and leave as they had been smoking in their room, this was while breakfast was in progress, I understand the reason for this request, although I found it slightly off putting for such a request to be made in front of other people.
A little more diplomacy shoud have been used.
All in all we had an enjoyable stay.

Thank you for your honest words.
We do apologise for the unfortunate incident. You are right that could have been handled much better. We feel very strong about the safety of our guests and any smoking in the house is banned for that reason. Our rooms are decorated and kept up to date so all smells fresh and looks inviting. It is good to see people enjoy the environment of Blackpool and even more the atmosphere that we aim to create. The menu was to your liking, the extensive breakfast that we are so proud of went down well. You will bepleased to see our plans for updating the decor!
We cannot wait to welcome you here again!

When we arrived the lady gave us our key and told us we were in our room (12A). She was very polite and when we asked what tmie the bar opened, we were told sometime between 8pm and 11pm, which wasn't really much help, but she did say we could help ourselves and leave money on the bar, although we didn't even know were the bar was lol.
The hotel seemed clean and tidy but we were disappointed when we reached our room. There was damp patches on the ceiling were mould and mildew was beginning to form and the wallpaper coming apart in places on the ceiling too.
The room itself was adequate, the bedding was clean and the bed comfortable. Tv, Freeview, radio, tea/coffee facilities, shampoo, soap, razor were all nice amenities included at no extra cost, the view out of our bedroom window was prettty awful. When we arrived back at our hotel on Saturday night it was dark, quiet and no one was about. We ended up going into next door (The Rutlands) as there was a Karaoke going on and the place seemed 'alive' and so spent the remainder of the night there.
We didn't have breakfast in the morning as they were charging £8.00 on top of the £60.00 we paid for a room that we didn't think was worth the money, especially that breakfast wasn't included. The Location of the hotel was 'spot on' and there is a large car park directly across the road, although we did struggle with a space at this busy time and so had to find one up the road. In my opinion, this hotel is okay, but I advise asking for a room other than 12A and before you travel check with the management whether the bar is operational (if that's what you want in a B&B) and possibly ask to see the room beforehand. We chose this hotel because their website made it look really inviting and they couple looked like they had a good laugh with their guests, we sadly only saw the lady owner once when we checked in and never saw anyone again. We were a little disappointed with this hotel, especially after reading all the good reviews concerning it...but I guess it's different for different days.
