“will not be hotel of the year much longer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2011

my wife and i have just returned from a four day stay at the "hotel of the year???". our stay was a package trip consisting of "luxury ????" coach travel and four nights half board stay. we should have had the benefit of a courtesy minibus to take us to and from the town centre, however, we were told that the minibus was so bad that no one would drive it,we should also have had a complimentary glass of wine with each meal, we got one on our last night. Our luxury coach was slightly better than a normal service bus. On arrival at the "hotel of the year" we were met by about thirty people all standing around both outside and inside drinking. I asked our driver if he would be coming to collect us on our return and he said, that his company would not be sending a coach as the return numbers (7)did not justify it,and it was up to the hotel to arrange a "luxury" ?? coach. After check in we were given our room key (207) and went to our room. First impressions were that the room was reasonable. However, after further inspection things went downhill.Unbeknown to each other, we had both drawn crosses in the dust on the bases of our bedside lights, they were still there the day we left, the dust was thick on the edges of our headboard. Our shower screen was never cleaned during our stay nor the tiled bathroom floor. Many stains were on the scatter cushions on the bed.Our door rattled so much during the night that i had to jam a chair against it. The food , when and if you got it ,was good ,if you got what you ordered. On two occasions I left the dining room after having placed an order , and still received no food after 3/4 hour. The final straw was when i enquired about the departure time for our coach, only then did the hotel management realise that no coach was coming and they hurriedly arranged a MINI BUS. Another couple involved had been to this hotel on three previous occasions----- like us they won't be back. So,no return luxury coach,no courtesy bus, no complimentary glass of wine with dinner. On the plus side the staff were very pleasant

I was disappointed to read this review especially as during your stay our hotel was fully booked and there were no other complaints. I spoke to you personally and was shocked to find that your room was dusty on checking the room the dust you claim to have been there for ages certainly had not!! Its no excuse but our chrome bedside lights do often attract dust quickly even after a good clean. I spoke to the housekeepers and informed them of your comments. We very rarely get issues regarding the cleanliness of our hotel. As for the luxury coach travel this was out of our control and we were not responsible for your return journey as you state. Nevertheless I contacted you immediately on your return to check your journey home was comfortable to which you expressed your satisfaction. The group standing outside the hotel were awaiting their return journey on the coach you arrived on it was a hot day so yes a few of them were enjoying a cool beverage. As for our courtesy mini bus it’s was running guests into town and I don't know where you got the impression that no one would drive it. I personally took guests to Cleveleys one day at their request. A complementary glass of wine is always available if part of the package you ordered. I feel that your review is heavily exaggerated and unfair in parts especially after the hotel personally discussed with you your complaints prior to this review and made every effort beyond which you asked for to resolve matters.

This is the first review I have ever done. It is also rather late as we were really lucky to enjoy the glorious sunshine of Blackpool in April! We booked 5 rooms for family members aged from 5 - 89 years old. We had a great time at THE STRAND & will definitely be staying there again. We got a super ‘early season’ deal of half board for £89ech & ½ price for a child. I think it is worth ringing for a deal as it was better value for us to stay the extra night! WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

I made various enquiries at different hotels & it was clear to see that The Strand stood out from even the booking enquiry stage as well as offering us a super deal. I asked lots of questions as was worried about the location and walking distance to town (at the trams were not working due to the major regeneration work that has been going on in Blackpool). Super communications during the booking service, we were also given rooms together.

The Strand is a great ‘small’ hotel. It ticked all the boxes for us, with the added attraction of the Coronation Street fame! The meals were super (We had breakfast & evening meal) Good choice and big portions. There was a bar & evening entertainment (as we had wanted) although as we were all so tired form the sea air that we did not stay up too late. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

The rooms were nice & clean we had singles, a twin & a family room with bunk beds very happy with them all they all had en suites which were also very nice. Coffee etc was provided and also filled every day as maid service was also daily.

The strand is on North Shore and was easily within walking distance to the tower. My Nana cannot walk far so we pushed a wheelchair into the town centre each day and my 5 year old was happy to walk. It was a pleasant walk and we were there in no time. We did not need a taxi / bus trip as we had thought we might. I am pleased we stayed out of the centre as it was much quieter and not too busy.

Our only negative during this visit is that major regeneration work was talking place along the seafront & to the tower area so the roads were closed. We were prepared for this However we were really unlucky as there was work going on through the night and some of us light sleepers were kept awake. (The hotel did not know about the night work which was unusual, and were very helpful and able to move a member of the family to another lovely room). I loved the sea view room but if you are a light sleeper I think the pedestrian noise through the night & trams may keep you awake. There is also a lift which was a must for us but if you are a light sleeper I would ask to be away from the lift at it is a bit loud. I have included these tips in the review as if you know prior to booking that you can ask for a room to suit your needs if you are a light sleeper and then I am sure you would give The Strand a 10 out of 10. Please note - Some of the family member happily slept thought and it was not at all a concern for them.

The work that was well underway when we visited Blackpool was a bit of a eyesore to the sea view, (but we knew this prior to the visit as were told about the trams not working etc when we booked) so we knew what to expect. However we cannot wait to go back again to see the finished results & I am sure it will be great for tourism in Blackpool.
I did read reviews on Trip advisor and was influenced by The Strands high rating and now I know it is really well deserved. Thanks again for making our family holiday a super stress free one. WE will definitely be returning to Blackpool and want to return to The Strand.

We have told lots of friends THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY!!!

Room Tip: See tip above if you are a light sleeper.

This is the fourth year I have stayed with my elderly uncle and 7 year old daughter at the Strand. The Staff were as helpful as ever. Food was great, decor lovely - especially the newly designed dining room with panoramic views of the sea. A warm welcome awaits you at the Strand.

Room Tip: spacious room

This is the third time we have stayed at The Strand and as normal they never let us down. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is gorgeous and plenty of it, but you will always get people that moan as we found when we stayed, not sure what they wanted. Their was a good choice at both breakfast and dinner. The location is fantastic as it is just a short walk to the Tower and all the shops or you can get a Tram or Bus from outside. We will definately be going back again.

We stayed with my wife and 92 year old father in law for a long weekend over a bank holiday. Nothing was too much trouble, the service at reception, bar, and breakfast was excellent.

The hotel has been refurbished in a very modern style, and is well situated between the Hilton and the Imperial on the Northshore seafront. There are excellent sea views from the lovely restaurant and breakfast room.

My Father in law had a disabled room with a walk in shower right next to the lift, which was perfect for him. Both our rooms had tea and coffee, flat screen TV, modern fittings, decent bathrooms, and were nicely furnished.

There is limited car parking at the hotel, but plenty of free street parking within a few yards walk.

Room Tip: The sea views are great.

We held 2 events at this hotel last week and stayed in the executive room first was our wedding reception which was a small intimate gathering, we asked for a small casual 3 course meal to help celebrate with family and friends simple food and sociable setting is what we asked for! what we were greeted with was beyond our wildest expectations. I my Husband and all 27 of our guests from babies to granny’s were greeted on the red carpet and escorted to the room, we had a meal worthy of 5 stars everything homemade from homemade bread and soup Yorkshire puddings to desert empty plates all round! The staff were amazing attention to every little detail, from waiting staff offering extra gravy to learning the names of my guests and making them feel so welcome, the view out of the panoramic windows as the sun set over the sea were amazing and the staff continued with amazing hospitality until the last guests left. Myself and my husband stayed in the executive room greeted with a bottle of champagne and a congratulations card from the staff the room was immaculate modern and fully kitted out with hairdryer tea and coffee making facilities (all with their own cupboard or shelf so they weren’t on view, adding to the modern feel of the room) The bath room had bath with shower all the complimentary soaps and shampoos and luxury large towels. Then walking into the room with its large windows and sea view blew us away waking up to the view of the prom and again receiving fab hospitality from the staff. We were offered breakfast in bed as we were newly weds! And the staff remembered our names my bridesmaid’s names and my mothers name the next morning while having a friendly chat in the downstairs bar. The staff and this hotel have a breathtaking wow factor when you walk in the door and take care of every little detail with no problem at all they are professional friendly accommodating and will bend over backwards to ensure your stay and or function is one to remember for all the right reasons!
We then had a function on the Sunday for our daughters christening we had a buffet for 80+ guests and again it exceeded our expectations the food was amazing homemade and to a high standard the most amazing deserts we’ve ever seen on a buffet! Jayne and her team ensured the buffet table always look inviting that the room was clean and comfortable stood chatting with guests ensuring all their needs were met and were fabulous hosts! We will be having all our family functions here and will be booking in all our family when they come to visit we had happy guests two smoothly run functions and the most amazing food all thanks to a fabulous family team run by friendly management and cannot thank them enough!!

Room Tip: Go for the executive room and go for a sea view!
