We (couple) stayed here for 4 nights in early september 2012. We booked a superior room for our stay and overall enjoyed it (but just a few fussy niggles). On arrival we got a lovely welcome from Paul - Nothing is too much trouble for this guy! When chatting to him about what our plans were, we were immediately offered the use of the hotel tumble dryer if our clothes got wet.The free wifi was a bonus and goes to show how well Paul looked after us, he immediately noticed my laptop for work and told us the password and offered to safe-keep my laptop through the day whilst we were out. On our first night we had left our window open through the day and our room was freezing. We asked paul about the heating and he brought a portable heater to our room for the night! Wonderful!
We were booked in for bed and breakfast in our price. The breakfast we couldn't fault, masses of choice and served very quickly. The prices for the evening meals were unbeatable - and there was no compromise on the quality of the food. 2 courses and a drink for £20, for some of the best food we have eaten in a long time was fantastic and we ate in the hotel every night. The menu was small with 3 choices of different main meals every night but perfectly sufficient for us. The time we spent here there was something different every night. Beautifully cooked.
As with many others we couldnt fault the cleanliness of this place. When we came into our room everything was spotlessly clean.
The lounge and bar areas downstairs offer comfortable and tastfully decorated space to relax.
One of our main niggles was the size of the room - although we got the superior perks such as mineral water, slippers, shower gel, coffee etc, we feel the name did not reflect the size of the room, however having seen the size of other rooms, it seems that this is present throughout the hotel.
Although room cleaning was carried out on a daily basis, none of our bedding was changed throughout our stay. Having cut myself through the day, during sleep I had marked one of our pillows slightly. I purposely left the pillow on top of the bed for the cleaners attention to change - however on coming back to the room after breakfast, I still had a bloody pillow. ( Though i must note that we did not raise this with the owners at the time due to having more than sufficient pillows for the rest of the stay.)
Finally, Our last niggle was the temprature of the room. Having thought the cold temperature the first night was due to me leaving the window open, it turned out that we were very cold for the majority of our stay in the room, this seems to be from the bathroom vents, standing at the bathroom door we could feel the wind coming through into the room. Again, having spoken with some other guests and been in their rooms, theirs also seemed very cold compared to the rest of the building.
Overall, despite a few niggles we have enjoyed our stay. Paul is a highly professional guy and will go out of his way to help you. A relaxed atmosphere - a lovely break.
