I've stayed at the Doric numerous times over the years, last year I visited in the spring half-term (May) and returned again this year in the school holidays with my girlfriend and three children. We again booked the mid-week break special which runs Mon (check-in from 2pm) to Fri morning (10am check out), we stayed 6th - 10th August. We again got one child free so for a family of five on dinner, bed & breakfast we only paid £552 at the highest peak time of the year which I think is quite good value. The dinner menu always consists of a starter, followed by soup, then mains, followed by dessert, ending with tea / coffee and a mint. There's always a roast meal and a fish dish plus another choice for the mains. None of us had any problems with picking something, there was always something for everyone and the food was as usual of a good standard. If you have smaller children who want to order from the childrens menu you have to order before 4pm each day and it's the usual chips, hot dogs, pizza type variety. Service was excellent, very friendly and efficient, if you ever have another request the staff are always willing to help. Not long after sitting down for dinner you also have a member of the bar staff visit your table to take any drinks orders even if you only want a jug of water for the table. Breakfast is also good with a selection of fruit juices, cereals, fruit, tea / coffee, plenty of toast and you can order a cooked breakfast to a combination of what suits each individual. James who runs the restaurant is still there doing an excellent job, he's really friendly, chats and jokes with the guests but keeps a close eye on service to make sure everything runs smoothly. He also remembers the returning guests which is a nice personal touch. Bar staff were again nice and friendly, Krazy Karl who entertains the kids is still there, he's doing three nights a week and has a slightly different show each night, he has lots of adults laughing besides the kids. The kids entertainment is now held in the Cumberland Room which means the restaurant room is used for the bingo and adults entertainment so there's something for everyone (although I must admit that the adults entertainment isn't great and probably appeals more to the older generation). The indoor pool is still there which is great for smaller children, there's also a steam room which is very good. The outdoor pool is still in good shape and is heated so it was a lovely temperature when we had a dip although there isn't a lot of seating / sun loungers. There's also a sauna by the outdoor pool. As there's five of us we had the same family room as last year (104) which has 2 double beds and a bunk bed. The room itself has been refurbished, has a modern decor and flat screen TV, the bathroom is still dated but functional. There's daily maid service and the hotel overall is always kept very clean. As mentioned in my last review and in other people's reviews, the hotel has a tram stop and bus stop straight outside the hotel, when using the tram we bought a day family ticket for £9.99 which allowed us unlimited use for the day so if you're getting out and about this is good value. The beach is also accessible outside the hotel and the promenade leads all the way down to the centre so it's a lovely walk as an alternative to getting the tram or bus. Blackpool has lots to do for the kids and although I've been going for many years I still found some different things to do such as the newly opened tower, madam tussauds and sea life as well as our favourite...the Pleasure Beach. If you want a nice friendly family hotel that's not smack in the middle of all the arcades / piers etc then I definitely recommend the Doric as I'm sure would all of the other regular guests who return year after year......
