“Another great stay.....”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

I've stayed at the Doric numerous times over the years, last year I visited in the spring half-term (May) and returned again this year in the school holidays with my girlfriend and three children. We again booked the mid-week break special which runs Mon (check-in from 2pm) to Fri morning (10am check out), we stayed 6th - 10th August. We again got one child free so for a family of five on dinner, bed & breakfast we only paid £552 at the highest peak time of the year which I think is quite good value. The dinner menu always consists of a starter, followed by soup, then mains, followed by dessert, ending with tea / coffee and a mint. There's always a roast meal and a fish dish plus another choice for the mains. None of us had any problems with picking something, there was always something for everyone and the food was as usual of a good standard. If you have smaller children who want to order from the childrens menu you have to order before 4pm each day and it's the usual chips, hot dogs, pizza type variety. Service was excellent, very friendly and efficient, if you ever have another request the staff are always willing to help. Not long after sitting down for dinner you also have a member of the bar staff visit your table to take any drinks orders even if you only want a jug of water for the table. Breakfast is also good with a selection of fruit juices, cereals, fruit, tea / coffee, plenty of toast and you can order a cooked breakfast to a combination of what suits each individual. James who runs the restaurant is still there doing an excellent job, he's really friendly, chats and jokes with the guests but keeps a close eye on service to make sure everything runs smoothly. He also remembers the returning guests which is a nice personal touch. Bar staff were again nice and friendly, Krazy Karl who entertains the kids is still there, he's doing three nights a week and has a slightly different show each night, he has lots of adults laughing besides the kids. The kids entertainment is now held in the Cumberland Room which means the restaurant room is used for the bingo and adults entertainment so there's something for everyone (although I must admit that the adults entertainment isn't great and probably appeals more to the older generation). The indoor pool is still there which is great for smaller children, there's also a steam room which is very good. The outdoor pool is still in good shape and is heated so it was a lovely temperature when we had a dip although there isn't a lot of seating / sun loungers. There's also a sauna by the outdoor pool. As there's five of us we had the same family room as last year (104) which has 2 double beds and a bunk bed. The room itself has been refurbished, has a modern decor and flat screen TV, the bathroom is still dated but functional. There's daily maid service and the hotel overall is always kept very clean. As mentioned in my last review and in other people's reviews, the hotel has a tram stop and bus stop straight outside the hotel, when using the tram we bought a day family ticket for £9.99 which allowed us unlimited use for the day so if you're getting out and about this is good value. The beach is also accessible outside the hotel and the promenade leads all the way down to the centre so it's a lovely walk as an alternative to getting the tram or bus. Blackpool has lots to do for the kids and although I've been going for many years I still found some different things to do such as the newly opened tower, madam tussauds and sea life as well as our favourite...the Pleasure Beach. If you want a nice friendly family hotel that's not smack in the middle of all the arcades / piers etc then I definitely recommend the Doric as I'm sure would all of the other regular guests who return year after year......

Room Tip: For larger families room 104 has 2 double beds and a bunk bed. I'd always book a room that faces...

This is a great, well run hotel. Rooms are a good size and for what we paid to stay here, the food couldn't be faulted. All of the staff are a credit to the hotel. The only negaitve comment is that the rooms were far too warm - and could do with air conditioning.

Overall, we would stay here again.

My wife and i have just returned from our second stay
at the doric hotel this year, (7 nights this time). From day
one, again, everything was perfect. This hotel punches well
above its 2 star rating. Rooms, public areas, etc are spotless
Breakfast, evening meal, bar snacks cannot be faulted.
Tram stop, bus stop, and taxi rank outside the hotel.
Our familily live just up the road in bispham, so we had our
grand children with us for 3 days. The staff even made them
an early meal on 2 days, before they were picked up to go
home (thanks Toni, George, and James.) The kids love this
hotel. On one night there was 75 kids in the hotel, although
you woud'nt have known it. All well behaved and kept
entertained in the cumberland bar by crazy karl and shauna.
You two are brilliant with the kids. My wife has even got me
playing bingo, last house, every night, over 100 pound.
No luck though, ha ha. To sum up, if you want to feel at ease,
young, or old (i think were what you call middle) pick this hotel
you cannot go wrong. Luv it.

Ann & Steve

P.S. well done Mark on your promotion.

Room Tip: Try to book a seaview room or suite. worth the extra.

Third time staying here and im not going to risk staying at some of the other ropey hotels you see in Blackpool now we have found a good one. Amazing the weather was good too which it hasnt been on recent visits in August. As we booked last year we had a sea view room which was nice as previous visits we have had a wall and air conditioning units, althou this didnt ruin our stay.
Recommened to familys and the older generation.

Stayed here beginning August 2012. We stayed breakfast and dinner, the food was excellent and friendly staff serving at meal times. Maid service was brilliant, clean towels every day, bed made, tidyed room, just excellent! Tram stop outside hotel and bus stop just up the road. A very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view room, avoid a room by Uncle Toms Cabin pub, a couple told me a little noisy at kick...

We spent 2 nights in the Doric at the end of July. The hotel is ideally located with tram stop right outside. Check in is strictly 2.30 so when we arrived at 1, we ordered a platter of sandwhiches for lunch...Huge and great quality fillings. Our room was not quite as contemporary as the website pics however it was very clean, as was the bathroom. Furniture not of great quality but for the price, perfectly adequate. We were overlooking the back of the hotel so not very pretty but you can upgrade to sea view rooms for a small supplement. We were travelling with a 5 year old so were out most of the day but there are some seats in the bar area looking over the sea for those who stay in the hotel more. We each found something to eat for dinner, can't really go wrong fruit juice or reasonably plain starters, soup and chicken and veg type mains. Good selection of desserts including choice of cheeses and biscuits. Kids meals available too, order at reception before 4 o'clock and you receive a ticket you hand to waiter. One piece of advice if you like soft drinks. Buy cans from machine or bottles from bar as draught not very nice. Evening entertainment great with something different each night and area for adults with seperate area for families so you never feel as though you're in the road. We never used the pools (1 small indoor and 1 larger heated outdoor) but I had a quick look and it looks nice and clean. If you intend to travel around Blackpool, worth investing in a travel card. You can buy daily (£4.50), 3 (£10.50) day or weekly (nor sure how much these are) tickets. These offer unlimited travel on the swanky new trams and black and yellow buses. Good value, especially if you buy as soon as you arrive. We arrived by train and purchased from a nearby 'paypoint' shop so used them the whole time we were there. Good if you're going to the zoo or Stanley park. These are attractions you must try if you're there for a while as they are the jewel in Blackppol's crown. Zoo is so easy to navigate with something for everyone. We will return to the Doric and have suggested to my parents as caters well for older guests too.

Room Tip: Sea view worth while if you're staying in hotel a while
