“1st class”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2012

Just returned for a 5 day break and i must say the hotel and its staff were 1st class again !!!

the hotel is placed in a superb location away from the town centre with the cabin tram stop on its doorstep , the new trams are superb btw.

we attended the illuminations switch on which was like a festival , loads of big name bands and the atmosphere was electric and the lights r even more impressive this yr.

arrived at 2pm and our room was ready , beautifully refurbished and spotlessly clean , whent down for evening meal and was welcomed by Natalie who was very pleasent and well mannered.
The meal its self was lovely and hot with ample choice ,

the following day we came down for bfast which was plentyfull and we had extra coffee and toast .

as our stay progress through the week we found that the entertaimnet for the children was second to none and when there happy ur happy !!!

we will be retuning to the doric in the half term in oct ,

special thanks to james in the restaurant who was superb with our fussy children , and to dawn our waitress who was always smiling .

Room Tip: family suite 1 or 2

First of all i am not being picky but brutally honest about the hotel, booked it as the reviews i had red on the website is 4.5 stars, these must be from people who frequently travel to 2-3 star hotels, this really is a 2 star hotel in serious need of updating and in the whole was left disappointed by the Doric experience, however it was not at all bad and list pros and cons

Pros

Great Location, outside Cabin tram stop
Food overall in my opinion was not that bad, quite varied and plenty of choice for Vegetarians
The entertainment was fantastic, my kids loved Krazy Karl, which for them is an achievement

Cons

The rooms are really dated and carpets are over 30 years old
Reception was mixed some friendly some not
The serving staff in the restaurant apart from 1-2 need a personality, many where slow and where not that friendly, my son had his birthday in the restaurant and whilst they where ok, no real zest in the happy birthday

In more detail, it was our first trip to blackpool and apart from last day when the heavens opened and the illuminations was cold and miserable it was a fab holiday, plenty to do there and the circus was out of this world, the hotel was not

We stayed in room 112, carpets and decor was very old with a 40 year TV to boot, wallpaper coming off, the carpet upstairs was not much better, looked at one room on second floor and that was totally refurbished, nice carpet and looked new.

Because we stayed an extra night got moved to room 19 Executive double room which was worse, no mixer taps in the bathroom and right above the entertainment which was coming out of my ears and from the window saw drain pipes.

The food was not that bad but waiting for breakfast and dinner was painfully slow, am sure some of the puddings and potatoes where not fresh.

My overall opinion of 95% of the hotels on the sea front is that they are all dated, so am sure Doric is not alone, only hotel which looked modern was the Hilton.

But think that most reviews probably give a total different view than me, most of the staff there we pleasant and am sure tried there best but if you are used to staying in 4 star hotels then this hotel is not for you.

Sorry to say will not be staying at the Hotel again unless they refurbish the whole hotel.

The pictures from the brochure must be of the new rooms which must be few and far between.

Would say that the price of the stay was adequate,

Couple more things, games room needs updating and sauna, pool cannot comment on as did not go in there.

Room Tip: ask for updated room and sea view

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in August with two teenager boys. We found the hotel to be clean with friendly and hardworking staff. Are room was fine, yes the decor is slightly dated but for what we paid it was acceptable. The pools were a hit with are boys and my husband enjoyed the steam room. Food was okay you got plenty and there was always a choice.

My only complaint was the entertainment !!!! You were fine if you were under 10 years of age kids magician shows and puppet shows etc,and if you were over 65 bingo and dated singers!!!. But come on we are a family in are thirties with teenagers who wanted something recent. To keep bums on their seats and money going in their tills we would have enjoyed a current music band or comedian or even a quiz. So come on guys you advertise for familys so cater for them.

Overall a nice hotel in a nice position with friendly staff. We would stay again if at Blackpool but would have to venture out on a evening.Good value for money.

i stayed here for 2 nights the food was nice and i didn't have to wait long for it to come the restaurant staff are very efficient and helpful. the room i stayed in was very clean and tidy. the beds are comfy and the bathrooms even have a built in hairdryer!
i really enjoyed the entertainment at the evenings, there is bingo, dancing, cabaret and even puppet shows for the kids. there is a very lovely sun lounge at the front of the hotel which has a sea view and is open all day and is accessible throughout the night. at the bar you can order sandwiches and food as well as drinks and is open until midnight which is good. there is a wide selection of different foods and drinks available for breakfast and dinner.
there is a pool inside and outside and a jacuzzi inside which is open until 6pm, and not forgetting the sauna and Turkish steam room. on the Cumberland side of the hotel there's even a games room with a pin ball table and games machines. one of the most friendliest hotels i have ever stayed in and i will be staying again. i cant recommend it enough!

Room Tip: the rooms on the front of the hotel have a better view of the sea.

Stayed here for 1 night in August with my daughter and friends.
Arrived at hotel and was greeted by a rather rude lady on reception. Luckily the young man there took over and assisted us.
We booked a single and a family room. On getting to our rooms we both had family rooms. One had a sea view and was lovely and modern and the other was very old fashioned and has wallpaper missing in the bedroom. I found this really dissaponting as I thought all the rooms were going to be modern as pictured on the website. We were in room 35.
In the rooms are lovely spacious bathrooms clean linen and towels and a kettle and tea and coffee.
We did not have a evening meal as we went down to Blackpool.
We had breakfast which was a full English or kippers or eggs to your choice. Juices, fruit and cereals and toast were all good.
We used the pool and jacuzzi which were loved by my 4 year old
Parking is to side of hotel or on street. If you park down the side of hotel you leave your key in case they need to let another resident out.
Overall I found this hotel clean and ok for a overnight stay. I was let down by the decor of the room and feel the wallpaper issue should be resolved. Liked the location as tram stop is outside the hotel and they run every half hour.
Bar and waiting staff are very polite.
I would look to stay elsewhere next time

We stayed at the Doric hotel on the 19th August for 3 nights DBB. We telephoned before hand to check about the parking situation and was advised it was on a first come firt served basis. We decided to get to the hotel a bit early to enure we got a parking space (which we did). On arrival we were greeted by very friendly reception staff. The room was very nice, spacious and clean. One of our rooms had a sea view with no extra cost.
The food was fantastic, my 14 year old son is a bit fussy so we asked for a large kids meal. The first day they brought it on a tiny plate. I asked them the next day to make sure it was put on a larger plate and this was done. The cheese and biscuit selection was fantastic. The guy in the restaurant was so helpful, he gave us advise on places to go in blackpool that our 14 year old would enjoy.
The entertainment was a bit old fashioned but there is another room with childrens entertainment and a bar area with a tv screen so plenty of options.
We had lots of sun so made the most of the outdoor pool and sunloungers. We also used the steam room and sauna.
There is an arcade as well with plenty of games and a pool table.
The main thing with this hotel was the service. Everyone from the cleaners to reception, waitresses and even the handyman was so friendly. Our room was cleaned everyday and restocked with plenty of tea / coffee and biscuits.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable break.
I would 100% reccommend this hotel and will certainly return.
