stayed fri to mon in may 2013 ,first time at the Doric. Probably the kindest way to review this 2 star hotel is by bullet points -positive...good location, friendly staff, very warm, clean , newly refurbished bathrooms.
negative...food very average, too salty, spicy.,too warm bedrooms, dated decor, acess within hotel from one side to other rather difficult as lifts only go so far.
please don't think it was all bad,but we have had better. and i suppose when the weather outside is torrential rain and hurracaine winds,a bedroom with sea view ,if theres a gap in the window, and you can hear the wind howling, isn't condusive to a good stay....but i have to say a big thank you to the hotel first aider for his very good and professional help when our grandson fell and cut his ear.He really helped put him at his ease.

Room Tip: ask for rooms from 101 upwards ,as these seem to be in the newer part of hotel, room 112 is a lovel...

Stayed in March but decided to go a day earlier than expected to beat the snow. Nice hotel with good food and nightly entertainment. The location is perfect for tram and bus access being just across the road. The parking is limited so imagine in the summer months it could be a problem finding a spot. The rooms were dated but aren't a lot of hotels in a similar situation hence the reasonable prices charged. Most of the staff were British which is rare as many hotels seem to employ only workers from abroad. We are not fans of Blackpool but would consider a return trip to this Hotel if visiting in the future.

We stayed at the Doric again this weekend and we were not disappointed. Everything about this hotel is excellent and its also value for money. The food was top class and the staff in the restaurant and bar were always freindly and helpful.

The facilities such as the pool and steam room were ecxellent and well looked after. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Blackpool.

Room Tip: Try lower floors the lift gets busy at times

We stayed here over the May Bank holiday and got an excellent rate on our room. We needed a smoking room so I wasn’t expecting anything amazing and I was right, the bathroom was a little dated and the lock didn’t work on the bathroom door. Some of the wallpaper was coming away around the window but all in all it was a good clean room.

The Doric is exactly what you would expect from a Blackpool family orientated hotel, it has a lot of children and elderly people staying there so if you don’t like that then quite simply don’t stay here. It really didn’t bother us in the slightest but I think it would bother a lot of young childless couples.

We only briefly saw the entertainment and it was your typical cabaret singers and cheesy disco which all the other guests loved. We knew what it would be like and therefore didn’t spend too much time there after dinner.

The food is of a good standard and the serving staff are very friendly helpful people, in fact all the staff were lovely and to be honest they make the place the nice place to stay that it is.

I was a little disappointed in the pool area, there are no showers in the ladies changing room just two communal showers for men and women so you have to pull on your clothes at the end of your swim and go back to you room which I didn’t like and it put me off going back to the pool.
We got a really got rate and paid £198 for two people on half board for three nights, it’s in the non-hen/stag area which was a huge bonus for us and all in all if you want a cheap, clean and friendly hotel for a short break in Blackpool then I would recommend here. Just remember it is Blackpool and with that comes a certain British seaside resort approach to the hospitality.

Just had my third stay at this hotel since November and would recommend it to anyone, the staff are really friendly and helpful, James and his staff in the restaurant are always happy to help, nothing seems too much trouble for them, Everywhere seems clean and uncluttered, tables are cleared regularly, The location is superb, handy for anywhere by Tram but far enough away from the busy part of Blackpool to leave the noise behind.

pros - good food (value for money); the restaurant and bar staff were lovely (James and George especially); bar has been refurbished; entertainment has improved. A traditional 'Blackpool' hotel experience rather than a 'business' style break; enough parking in area; Tram stop opposite

cons - room dated (as for renovated room); overly hot; very elderly clientele; pool area could do with a refurb, though jacuzzi works well; bad drains smell in Cumberland bar; very unfrendly lady on reception in check in

Room Tip: get a renovated room.
