On 31 May 08 we took our chldren, aged 4 and 9 to the Sandcastle for the first time. We read a couple of reviews first and it sounded aweful. Always one to make my own mind up we went anyway. First off there is plenty of parking. We spent 5 hours there and enjoyed ourselves very much. The kids loved the wave pool and the rapids are great fun. The water slides are good fun and there are several for all ages and swimming ability. The wave pool smelt funny which i suppose is the chemicals used to keep it clean, though after a while you forget about the smell. The food was reasonble and so was the price. The staff were very friendly and informative. We found the toilets to be clean and well maintained. FYI as well as the main lockers there are some small lockers by the shop to put your wallet/purse in so you dont have to keep trudging back to the changing area when you want something to eat and drink. The only thing to be aware of is that up towards the cafe area and around in various locations the floor is tiled and is extremley slippery when wet. Both my wife and daughter fell and so did a couple of others we saw. Dry your feet first or wear some footwear.
All in all a very good day out, we will denfinatly be going again.

It makes me sad to say that what was once a fantastic experience as part of the magnificent experience of blackpool is now just terrible. It's too small and the extra water rides thta have been installed are EXTRA money even though it's VERY expensive to get in! It's a waterpark that just wants extra money at EVERY available opportunity. Huge q's and kids everywhere, no deep water to swim in, small waves in what was supposed to be a wave pool and only 2 or 3 slides to choose from, except the q's were so long. I loved this place but now it's just terrible.

To top everything off I went for a coffee at the cafe in the Sandcastle after I had been inside, I was incredibly bored and a coffee would of just cheered me up. The woman at the cafe was just staring at me like i wasn't there, she didn't want to serve anybody, she didn't want to be there and she wasn't polite. :o( but at least i enjoyed my starbucks coffee after she stopped frowing at herself.

I would reccomend for families of small children, however it is opverpriced and it could be much better.

The poolside toilets were cleaned to a fashion, when i was there i used both sets of toilets and they both as smelly as each other. My wife and daughter used the ladies and commented on the smell, the food serving areas smelt of old grease and they were poorly ventilated so the smell came back through serving areas. It was very warm in the pool area aswell, this ment anybody who was a spectator needed a cold drink! but for one reason or another the did'nt serve ice with any drinks at all. This ment when got a drink it went warm very quickly, ice cream lasted about ten seconds in the heat before it started running down your hands.Which means you have to go to the smelly toilets to wash them.doh !!!!! p.s i could not take photos because a life guard told me it was because of perverts in the area,it'scoming to something when you can't take a photo of your wife and daughter............................................................................
