This is a wonderful display of lighting on a heroic scale, constructed by Chinese workers and installed in this wonderful old building. It made me and my familiy very happy. Well done the Winter gardens, back in public ownership. I have blogged about the display here: http://www.lightresearch.mmu.ac.uk/

The Winter Gardens are interesting, like something from a byegone age, but are starting to lok a bit tatty now - rather like Blackpool itself.

This is worth a visit if only to admire the glorious Victorian design. Built in the time of steel girders and glass rooves it's a relic of a bygone age. And the bonus is a pleasant little café tucked inside the Floral Room. Reasonably priced hefty bread rolls, generously filled. And then the most decadent, deadly and delicious bun with glace cherries, something sticky inside, those little sugar sprinkles and some currants, all adding up to calorie-soaked heaven. I enjoyed the visit and think the proprietors need to make more of the potential for an affordable afternoon tea.

What a remarkable building! The WG is undergoing major repair and restoration and already it's looking superb! Still a lot more to do and I wish the powers-that-be all the very best!

The Empress Ballroom is truly stunning and the Opera House likewise. The new coffee shop in space that was used for years as an amusement arcade has been designed sympathetically and the coffee and cakes are spot on! Staff very friendly indeed :)
