We saw Mama Mia in Newcastle & in London; This was the best performance. High energy performance, convincing acting, Abba songs. The plot is subtly different to the film (& is the original, of course) and you get 3 more Abba songs. Stage changes are slick and clever. Everything on the stage was very good indeed. This part of the Winter Gardens is still in need of renovation and the audience will have a number of all female parties trying with the help of excess alcohol to regain a long lost youth; sitting next to a particularly active one meant some concern about losing my head - in a physical kind of way.
