“Good food but slow service and very cold seat”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

This has always been known to locals as a great Chinese restaurant so I was keen to visit again after a very long time. It was a very busy Saturday night and we handnt booked but there were tables free and we were seated by the time we had a drink and looked at the menu. There were two large parties upstairs and from what we could see only 3 staff to deal with everyone, so they did extremely well to manage everyone as well as they did, but unfortunately our two courses took almost 3 hours and therefore we would probably not go back again on a weekend night. We were told they were two of their regular staff down (apparently having got caught up in a fracas in Walkabout bar the night before!) so maybe our experience would have been different if they had been there - but think it was more the kitchen couldnt keep up either with so many people.
To make the waiting worse we were sitting at a table at the front of the restaurant, and as part of the (currently ongoing) refurbishments the wall that used to provide a bit of shelter for the tables is no longer there. In summer this wouldnt be a problem but on a cold April night with the door constantly being opened it was quite unplesant. So despite the food being good the evening was not enjoyable and we left without having coffees which we desperately wanted to warm up, but knew this would probably take another half an hour to arrive - so left feeling we handnt quite finished our evening. I feel sorry for the manager as she worked extremely hard, and is very personable, and we will probably return purely because of her - but will leave it for a warmer week-day night when hopefully our experience will be a better one.

Bit of work going on downstairs but the food and service was excellent. It wasnt perfect but was more than made for it with a smile, a laugh and making you feel welcomed.
