I had one night at this hotel at the end of September & have to say i was very disappointed.

The whole place is very tired & that is exactly how i felt after a night there.

The only positives i can give are
- good breakfast
- polite staff

Everything else was dire!

From the moment we pulled up outside it was clear to see just how desperate the hotel is for a refurb, it looks so much worse than the photo's on the website.

The interior was no better, long dark corridors with a very 90's feel to the decor.

I paid extra for a Queen suite which really was nothing special. The bed had a large dip in the middle so there was only one very small narrow part of it which could be slept on anyway.

The bathroom was small & grubby with a nasty smell as though it had been cleaned with a dirty mop.

This turned out to be the least of my problems though as i soon found out that the walls where paper thin & i could hear the televisions & conversations of both neighbouring rooms (even though i don't believe that they where being particularly loud).

Another major problem was the lack of quiet self closing doors in the corridors which are pretty much standard in all hotels in the 21st century....except this one. This meant that every time someone walked down the corridor it would be followed by a succession of slamming banging doors. Resulting in a severe lack of sleep.

The next complaint i have is with the health club which is anything but healthy!

The changing rooms could at best be described as very grubby and outdated with missing tiles & stained floors.

The lockers had no locks on & the receptionist advised me to take all my valuables back to my room.

After getting changed i then discovered that the hot tub was broken (reading other reviews this seems to be a common fault).

I got into the pool but on looking round & seeing how dirty everything about me was i decided to return to my room & write the whole experience off as a complete waste of time.

I found this very disappointing as i had chosen this hotel over others because of its 'health club'.

Since staying at the hotel i have read the managers response to
other complaints regarding the health club & found it quite disappointing.

Best Western Hotels seem to claim that the health club is nothing to do with them as it is run by a separate company, this is simply not good enough.

The leisure club is an integral part of your hotel building. It is advertised on your website along with deceptive pictures & you are misleading customers if you then claim that it has nothing to do with you.

I have stayed in many other Best Western Hotels & always found them to be very good but this one is clearly a bad apple & because of this experience it will be a very very long time before i book a Best Western again. A travel lodge or premier inn at half the price would have been a far better option than this place.

Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you found the team to be polite and professional and liked our breakfast.

I am sorry that an issue with the drains for the hotel, which the water authority were working on may have caused an unpleasant odour to back up into your bathroom through the drains and hope you will accept my apologies.

The hotel was built a number of years ago and whilst we constantly redecorate corridors and bedrooms I am afraid there is little we can do about the length of the corridors nor the thickness of the bedroom doors.

I am sorry that guests returning to their bedrooms late at night disturbed you and I know David Greenwood the GM at the hotel gets his maintenance crew to regular check the closers to get the right balance between not slamming but closing effectively to create a flame and smoke barrier in the unlikely event of a fire. Unfortunately it appears to need to check these more frequently.......sorry.

The Leisure Club comments have been passed on to the company that leases this area. Whilst we do not run this area, it is in our hotel and we need to ensure it is up to standard, and we would certainly never shirk our responsibility in this area. Ash and his team have now blitzed this area.

We cannot get away from the fact that the BW Leicester Stage hotel is an older style of property but I am pleased that despite this you liked our team and our food. We will work hard to get right those other things which are within our control so that we can make your next stay much more enjoyable.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

Kind regards

David

Good hotel but no-one will answer the direct line phone. Even Best Western could not get through to them. You'll lose business this way. Otherwise good for our business. Be aware of the phone problem.

Thanks for your review but there was a BT issue in the local area of the hotel for 36 hours which caused this issue. Hence no one could get through and we could not even get emails. Best Western had been advised of the problem and I am disappointed that they appear not to have cascaded this important point

Kindest regards

Booked a family room at short notice, wasn't expecting The Ritz etc, having stayed here a couple of times before on business years ago, but it is still a very hospitable and friendly hotel that just ticks all the boxes for a couple of nights stay. Superb staff at breakfast and during the evening (we were advised of a wedding party this weekend, but the restaurant team still reserved us a table in the lounge area and ensured we were not neglected and well looked after) we enjoyed a superb dinner etc. Reception team were friendly, polite and had great sense of humour and so helpful. Bedroom was of a generous size; beds comfortable and picked up on special request for extra pillows. A little dusty, bit of black mould on the grouting, taps that swivelled and a shower that was so powerful it almost flooded the floor, BUT all symptoms of a hotel that needs a little more money spent on it, but the natural friendliness of the team made up for any issues we could of had. Huge carpark, free wifi, breakfast buffet, small pool and gym. Great for families and nice people.

Room Tip: some of the Ground floor rooms overlook carpark, so get the noise from guests leaving late night fun...

Arrived late, guy at reception was extremely disinterested, I had to ask where breakfast was and what time. Room was tired bed had a massive dip. Noisy as beside car park. Breakfast was ok, however could have bounced the eggs. Won't be back. Overall feeling that reception staff could not be bothered, breakfast staff slightly better.

Thank you for your review and I have asked David greenwood the General Manager to talk to his team about the welcome you recieved as this is unusual and not typical of the comments we get.

We run a breakfast buffet and try to keep the stock on display changing as frequently as possible and would have been pleased to cook your eggs fresh if you had rather.

I do hope we see you again and we take your comments on board.

Thank you

We stayed at this hotel as a stop over the night before a funeral we had to attend. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a lovely young man who was very welcoming and cheerful just what you want to see on arrival after a long drive. Once we had been handed the keys to our room we found the room to be very clean and spacious. Only one problem which was not fault of the hotels it had feather duvet which I was allergic to but a call to reception soon had this changed for us with no problems at all. We wanted to find a local pub for a drink in and the very kind receptionist gave us locations and a possible bus route to use he was very helpful.
We had breakfast in the morning which was lovely a good selection and you could choose what you wanted. The lady serving was cheerful and happy and also very nice.
Overall it was a good quality hotel with friendly staff couldnt fault our stay.

Room Tip: rooms at the back could be quieter as to off main road location.
