“A place to recommend for a short stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2014

We have just spent a weekend in Leicester to assist a concert at De Montforth Hall. We found this hotel very cosy and quite close to the city centre and train station.

The staff are very polite and professional. Easy parking at the rear of the hotel, sufficient even during a wedding. We had an executive double which was very spacious and clean. Thumps up to the hotel.

This hotel is conveniently located close to the University Campus and a short walk from the city centre. The downstairs areas are nicely decorated and look smart, although it's a bit of a maze to find the reception if you come from the front of the building...

Every member of staff was extrememly friendly and hepful, and a high point of the hotel is the breakfast: Very good quality in nice surroundings, with exceptional service (this alone is worth an extra point).

The facilites at the hotel are good, with on-site bar, restaurant and Wifi in the rooms. However, it loses marks for the dated decor in the rooms. Rooms are very spacious, with good facilities (iron, telephone, TV, etc) but the carpets/curtains are dated, and there were a number of spillage/stains on the sofa and chair. The ensuite I had looked in desperate need of an upgrade. Nevertheless everything worked OK.

Overall this hotel is good value for moeny considering the location and the fantastic breakfast, but needs some work in the bedrooms.

Excellent service from the approachable, professional and polite staff at this independent hotel. Allocated a spacious, tastefully decorated, spotless clean room with real attention to detail. Good central location.

Whilst studying at the University this has proved to be a great place for family to stay, and they have done so on a handful of occasions. The rates are deservingly higher than those of other nearby hotels, you wont be disappointed once you get to see the rooms which are very well equipped and comfortable. If possible, the rooms that look over New Walk seem to be the largest and obviously have the best view. I am also told that the breakfast is delicious.

Room Tip: Aim for one that looks over New Walk.

Central but in a quiet area. Professional and approachable staff. Excellent restaurant service and food. An older hotel so can be a little quirky, with a few creaky floor boards. Plenty of loung areas to relax in before and after visiting the restaurant

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the mini gym. A little noisey at 06:00 on sunday morning when someone is...

We were there for a wedding and a number of rooms were secured for us. we stayed in a family room. without AC, the open window tended to let some street noise but this is an old hotel, with some quirks like a kennel with a porcelain dog and lots of stairs to nowhere...Still, the family room was sufficiently spacious, the breakfast was in a lovely room and by and large, the traditional English breakfast was good/great. Staff were good, especially the front desk, which made sure that we had a room when we discovered that we'd booked for a day less than intended. The main person, a lovely Dutch lady, helped with taxis and so on throughout. The bar is ordinary in terms of offerings but is a nice place for a drink and to access email as wifi is spotty.

Room Tip: Get a room facing away from the main street, and away from the bar but it's an old hotel, so emb...

We requested a quiet room when booking. Unbeknown to us, the hotel had a wedding on that night. They put us in a room directly above the very loud disco, which went on till 12.30 a.m. Repeated pleas to the night receptionist resulted in the music being turned up. Next morning, the charming manager David listened patiently to my complaint and apologised profusely. Our payment was refunded and a follow-up call offered a room upgrade should we return. What lovely people!

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. I'm pleased to hear that the problems you encountered during your stay were resolved swiftly and to your satisfaction. It is hotel policy to allocate rooms away from any potential disruption, particularly during events at the hotel, unfortunately on this occasion we have not picked up on this.
We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Tom Bennett
