I love this place. There's dinosaurs, mummies and lots more for children. There's a very good collection of German expressionist art (Die Brucke etc). There are often interesting special exhibitions. There's a nice cafe. They have lunchtime concerts (except not in 2013 as the room used is being refurbished). And it's free.
What's not to like?

Took my year 3 and 4 class to the egyptian exhibit as part of their topic on Ancient Egypt. We took part in their workshop which was excellent. Very informative and lots of hands on activities for the children, including making an Egyptian hieroglyph in clay, handling artefacts, dressing as ancient egyptians, preparing a body for mummification. We also visited the art gallery using some sheets I had prepared to direct the children to specific art works etc. There is a great shop with a wide variety of souvenirs mostly reasonably priced. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

I took two of my grandchildren today to the New Walk Museum with a big age difference. One was 21 months old, the other aged 13 years and there was plenty to amuse both of them despite the age difference. Kids were welcomed and catered for with lots of hands on exhibits. We didn't use the restaurant as we had taken a picnic to have on the lawn outside but, as with everything else there, it looked clean and inviting. We will definitely be returning

The museum is always on going with different projects and supporting the history and contemporary work in Leicester. Always a great day out and nice café to hang out in.
