“Great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

We stayed here in August 2012, and decided to have a weekend away here again, We were not disappointed,
The receptionist was friendly, we found our room, it had a dressing area as you went in, then into the bed area, not over large, but you only sleep there, a nice ensuite, which had a bath, as well as a shower over it.
The breakfast had a good selection, and our meal on the first night , my husband had pizza and he said it was one of the best he had ever had! Also they did bottled Speckled Hen, a bonus for him.
It is so handy for the town and train station. We will be back.

We found this hotel to be excellent value considering the central location and the facilities. The staff we encountered were all very helpful and friendly and the fact that there was a hotel car park for just £5 per night was the icing on the cake. I must mention the fact that the bag of dirty washing I left in the wardrobe was very kindly posted home to me after a rather embarrassed inquiry! We were also very pleasantly surprised that Leicester itself had so much to offer for a city break. We wish there was a produce market half as good as Leicester's in Liverpool.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post a review.

I was delighted to read the comments regarding," value for the facilities we offer". We are going through a bedroom upgrade and regular guests are loving the changes.

May I thank you also for the comments regarding the team.

Leicester has and is changing as a city. The market is one thing that hasn't. Still producing great local produce. If we win UK Capital of Culture for 2017 it will change even further.

Once again thank you for taking the time and trouble to post a review.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

I was delighted you had a nice stay.

A simple cal to reception for extra tea/coffee would have resolved this issue.

Once again thank you for the review and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Pros:
- Great staff, from reception to the breakfast servers. . They could not do enough to help. Excellent service above and beyond what you would expect for this quality of hotel.
- location. Very near the centre and train station.
- the original features of the building. Lovely original windows and staircase.
-wifi. Works well.

Cons.
- the modernised features of the building. Sitting in the lobby bar has as much atmosphere as sitting in an airport. The lighting was BRIGHT. Not conducive to relaxing.
- the heating. We stayed in August and the daytime temps were around 20c. The heating came on at night and our bedroom hit 26c.
- paying for parking in the hotel car park.

This must have been a very beautiful hotel once upon a time but the modernisation has stripped much of its character. It needs a sympathetic renovation that takes into consideration the needs of the customer, not simply the corporate style of the owner.

This place is fine for a one off, if you just need somewhere to sleep but I would not go back.

Our building is Grade 11 and unfortunately we can not install air condition due the the set guidelines. I can assure you the heating is and was not on during your stay.

The lounge area you refer to is in the planning stages of getting a complete makeover.

Once again thank you for your review and we hope to see you soon on your next visit to Leicester.

WOW. The hotel really needs refurbishment it’s like stepping back in time. The décor, carpets, and rooms are awful. No air-conditioning either. The lady on the reception had an air of Norman Bates about her. I checked in a 16:00 and was told my room was still dirty! I had to tell her I want a room now as she was considering letting me wait until housekeeping had made it up.

My room was overlooking the main road, the noise was constant all night, drunken idiots and people frequently going into one of the 1000s of chicken shops or the book makers. I had a drink at the bar, it was flat and really cloudy, when I took it back, the bar man said “Yes it looked funny when I gave it to you” then changed it – wtf?

Breakfast was truly awful and served within the deepest darkest part of the hotel with no windows. I had eggs benedict or perhaps it should be renamed into “egg benedict” as it was served with one egg and only half of the muffin.

In short don’t stay here. This isn’t up to the usual refinements of Mecure / Hilton standards.

Room Tip: Stay in a different hotel

I have used this hotel lots over the last 4 months - working away with work - staying for 3 nights a week. positives - great staff - especially Martin, gets is right every time. Central location with parking for a fiver a day - good in Leicester. Not so good - some of the rooms tired, currently being refreshed. some v small. Restaurant hit and miss - and a little expensive given all the options on your doorstep Nando's right opposite - lots of other options too.
pay for the upgrade the rooms are much better and nicer £20 well spent!

Room Tip: pay the extra£20 for an upgrade - or just ask for one!

Thank you for posting a review.

We are in a great location with very reasonable car parking.

Thank you for your tip, however if you have been staying with us for a few weeks then you would be aware that my reception team will only upgrade to one of our Privilege Rooms if a guest has paid the £20.

Once again thank you for the review and we look forward to seeing you again soon on your return to Leicester.

Stayed one night. Good, central location. Parking (£5 per night, very reasonable) was clearly signposted.

Lobby looked very impressive, but the corridor outside the room was very average, even a bit run down. Room not particularly big, but we've stayed in smaller. Looked like it had been recently refurbished. Don't think the main room light switch was working, but the one we tried by the side of the bed did.

The dials in the bath/shower were of a confusing design - three, unlabelled. We had to do a bit of trial and error to figure out which was which. The front panel was cracked in several places, as was a couple of floor tiles. The basin tap was in a big need of descaling. Is this really meant to be a four star hotel? Would have expected a higher standard, to be honest. Oh well. There's nothing to be done about the view, which unfortunately was of a dilapidated old building with cracked windows, as our room was toward the back of the building. I don't hold that against it, though, we chose the hotel because of the central location and the price.

As we expected getting back quite late and not getting up in time for breakfast, we didn't order any. Very helpful staff on check-in and check-out. Centre of town easily walkable - the big shopping centre was maybe five minutes away, if that. Would come again.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

We are very well located and have the added benefit of a car park on site.

We are currently going through an upgrade to all our bedrooms which will be complete next week.

The lobby area you find impressive is in the planning stages to also get upgraded as are the bedroom corridors.

Thank you for the kind comments regarding the reception team.

I was delighted to read you would come again.

Once again thank you for your review.
