“The ghostly engineer”
Reviewed 31 October 2013 via mobile

A really good evening was spent here. I booked earlier in the year so looking forward to it. Well worth going to as everyone there wants to be there. The tour was excellent.
Even the staff dressed up which made it.
Tea and scone afterwards and a wander around the museum.

“Ok for a quick visit”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

Some interesting exhibits and its great that admission is free, but there really isnt enough to see. My two boys aged 12 and 10 had had enough after about an hour. Its probably better on a special event day to be fair, they could also do with a tea room selling drinks and snacks. Overall its worth calling in if youve been to the Space centre as they are pretty much next to each other but I wouldnt make a special trip.

“The Normans review”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

After booking the ghostly engineer event in April, it felt very surreal as we waited for our tour to commence !
A whole evening starting in the basement and having the history lesson.
As we moved up to the ground floor the beam was steaming and the movement was so smooth.
Up and up to the top floor.
Then the museum and a cuppa with a scone.
All for the price of £3 !!!
I can say what an "Awesome" evening.. A huge thank you to the volunteers and staff who are so passionate about what they do.
I am buzzing and would do it again.

“Old fshioned but worh a visit”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

I remember visiting here as a child and having recently visited with my own kids, it hasn't changed that much. The museum is staffed by volunteers who deserve a great deal of credit for keeping this valuable local museum open. It is a must for school age children although by definition as a Victorian building, parts of the engine house are not easily accessed by prams (or wheelchairs) there is a lift up to the upper level and the key is available from the reception desk. The café area is of the plastic cup variety but the prices reflect this and gain, the dedication of the volunteers must be recognised. On the day of our visit the steam train was working and it is definitely worth checking that this is working prior to visiting. There are various steam days during the year when there are more things to see and we will be going back on one of these. When it is considered that there is no charge for entering, this is a good and educational way of spending a couple of hours with your kids.
