“Abbey Pumping Station”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Sorry but The Pumping station was not well presented.

No displays were running and it was a gloriously hot day, The 2ft gauge railway engine was not out on display or the signs for it were badly placed, there were no signs for anything outside of the main building but I'm sure they have many items under cover.

My biggest complaint was the access to the upper area (the most interesting area) of the beam engine was restricted, it's about time this engine was powered with compressed air so that it could be run on a daily basis for the public, or have I missed something.

If you appreciate a nice selection of static displays then the museum does that nicely and that can't be faulted.

“Marvellous”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Our kids' favourite place to go in Leicester. Forget the ride-on railway (which is beautifully maintained) and the huge victorian mechanical pumps - the children LOVE the flushing toilet exhibit, where they essentially flush the loo and follow a flushed poo along clear pipes down to the sewer.
Forgot to mention, it's FREE entry - offering 100% better value than the extortionate/disappointing Space Centre next door. A marvellous way to spend a sunny afternoon.

“really interesting”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Take the family on one of the big open days - we went for a classic car show primarily but the artefacts, working industrial machinery, volunteers in contemporary dress, entertainers for kids, cafe, atmosphere etc etc meant we enjoyed a whole day there... endless nooks and crannies to explore and 'workers' to chat with.

“Great place to visit”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

What a little gem. If you want a contrast to the high Tec of the space museum next door then this is the place to visit. Loads of old engines you can smell the oil and feel the steam that would have filled the place in the olden days.
The two large Beam pumps are amazing and the size and weight are breath taking.
Sadly we did not find enough staff to give us an explanation of the exhibits. Well worth the £10 donation we left in donation box (old loo).

“Interesting and a bit different”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Great little museum to while away an hour or so with children - lots of hands-on activities and some interesting exhibits. Looking forward to returning on one of the steaming days.
