“Very nice old fashioned hotel”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

My wife and I stayed a night at the Regency, after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, and found it perfectly fab. Those complaining about the hotel being old-fashioned, well it's an old hotel, there's a clue in the name. It is well maintained. We had a balcony and canopy bed, it was great. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was cooked to order, and waiter served. Can't find anything to complain about. And it's in Leicester, which turns out to be a surprisingly attractive city, in parts, with a remarkably friendly atmosphere. We'll stay again, when we return.

I have stayed several times and had similar experiences. Food awful, service awful, noisy and lack of organisation. However, staff are great and very friendly. All the issues are down to lack of management awareness and expecting guests to put up and shut up.
Breakfast is good though!!

Room Tip: Ask to stay at the rear of the hotel due to road noise

I complained about the food 2 years ago on how bad it was and then stayed again recently. The food is dreadful. The people I stayed with also complained.Except for breakfast do not eat here.
The rooms are ok.Its a shame because this hotel has the potential to do really well.

Hotel is located in the leafy area of stonycraft about 2 miles along London road from railway station. Hotel has the genteel feel of yesteryear. One expects Ms Marple to join you for a sherry in the salon. Car parking, free wifi and substantial breakfast included in cost. Rooms are elegantly decorated though some of furnishings are a little worn. Overall a very pleasant accommodation.

Just had another two night stay with my sister in law. Still as good as when we stayed there in February. I had to book at the last minute as my husband was kept in hospital longer than expected. Owners and staff couldn't have been more helpful. Very clean and food was excellant.

Room Tip: Had Room 1 on the first night and Room 6 on the second night both were very good.

Was in Leicester for business, one night stay. Enjoyed the breakfast thoroughly, great portion and wonderfully cooked traditional British breakfast, including black pudding. Room was ok and functional, shower was awesome and hot (was there in Winter) wifi worked sporadically, but over all a nice dainty stay. Great parking if your driving and good access. Staff were helpful, the bell boy was magic, poor fellow i had him lugging my 30kg suitcase up the staircase, he was sweating like he had just finished round 3 of a boxing match. Was well worth the tip and the avoidance of bag/ck pain for me.
Make sure you read the history of the Hotel on the wall opposite the base of the stairs, one of the former owners was on the Titanic, for all those history buffs.

Room Tip: No lift or elevator, if you get allocated a third floor room, ask for help with you bags.
