“AVOID!”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

This used to be a gem of a place for a special occasion. Lovely home cooked food, charismatic efficient staff old world charm. Booked a party of 23 for Sunday Lunch for a family reunion. There was clearly a hint when we arrived we were the only ones in the place! Previously you would struggle to get a space on the car park. The waitress should consider a career change, miserable (like the place its self), and absolutely no idea about customer service. There were butter pats on the table but no rolls. when they were requested rolls eventually appeared hot par baked and obviously just put in the oven and not even enough for all of us. When we pointed this out she gave us a look of 'what now' said chef baked them fresh and we would have to wait. We had already waited! The main course was ok but I suspect the yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were frozen it nothing special. As soon as she had served the food she disappeared and we had to get up from the table go into the bar and get drinks. The deserts were woeful. A verbal list was given but each choice was given the rider there is only 1 portion or 2 portions available. My elderly father requested custard only to be told there was none on the menu! But then she returned to say there was no cream and would anyone like custard!! There were horrible tasted like they had been in the fridge for sometime, clearly left over from another function. I had apple and walnut sponge which had obviously been cooked in haste, probably in the microwave and was raw in the middle. On previous visits the desserts had been a real highlight. We were not offered coffee, the waitress seemed glad that we were leaving not as glad as us! A truly memorable meal for all the wrong reasons and not cheap. Don't go!

The staff are absolutely useless and clueless! Tried to give us a standard room despite the fact that we had a confirmed booking for a superior room. The hotel needs a revamp, and more competent staff. The breakfast was terrible, and the service slow.

Used to be nice
Went to a friends wedding couple of weeks ago. They paid for a wedding package with nice touches..red carpet, wedding co-ordinator, fabric napkins, dressed tables etc etc.....they checked the room the night before it was so far off what they had paid for they had to get 10 of us there friends to sort everything until 1am.

Paid for a decent menu with even handmade chicken nuggets for the kids...£15....they were served proper cheapo ones from a supermarket.

They were ignored by the owner upon arrival as were the guests when they arrived although they had paid for welcome staff.

Think the new owners are interested only in cutting corners. ruined our friends wedding completely.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Room very small and dark, decor really dull, bathroom absolutely tiny. Staff not particularly friendly, just seemed not interested. Breakfast food not good either, ingredients looked and tasted cheap. Easy to find and get to, good car parking. Advertises free wifi but worked less than half the time and really slow when it did. Really fed up of hotels offering free wifi which struggles to even send an email most of the time.

Room Tip: Single rooms tiny!

My wife and I stayed a night at the Regency, after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, and found it perfectly fab. Those complaining about the hotel being old-fashioned, well it's an old hotel, there's a clue in the name. It is well maintained. We had a balcony and canopy bed, it was great. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the breakfast was cooked to order, and waiter served. Can't find anything to complain about. And it's in Leicester, which turns out to be a surprisingly attractive city, in parts, with a remarkably friendly atmosphere. We'll stay again, when we return.

I have stayed several times and had similar experiences. Food awful, service awful, noisy and lack of organisation. However, staff are great and very friendly. All the issues are down to lack of management awareness and expecting guests to put up and shut up.
Breakfast is good though!!

Room Tip: Ask to stay at the rear of the hotel due to road noise

I complained about the food 2 years ago on how bad it was and then stayed again recently. The food is dreadful. The people I stayed with also complained.Except for breakfast do not eat here.
The rooms are ok.Its a shame because this hotel has the potential to do really well.
