We stayed one night at the Regency in Leicester. It is fairly close to the station so a quick cab ride. It is quite impressive from the outside and has a characterful feel to it- perhaps in need of updating but that doesn't really matter.

What did annoy us was that when we arrived we were told that there was a large student party that night. Nobody warned us beforehand. When we arrived back at the hotel at around 11pm, the party was in full swing with very loud music (dj and dancing), very audible from the room. If we had known, we would not have booked the hotel.

Breakfast was also early (up until 9:30 on a weekend) and they rang to kick us out saying that checkout was at 10am.

So, overall, not one I would recommend even though it had its strong points.

I booked the best room here and it was a very pleasant stay. The staff were all polite and helpful. I cant say that it was a thrilling experience, but definitely just above average in terms of value for money. It's also a nice character building, a little different from yr corporate hotels.

Whilst driving up to the hotel i was excited to spend a weekend away with my boyfriend of two years, after visiting a lot of commercial hotels before, we decided it would be nice to go for something a little more classic. After finding this hotel online we felt it would be ideal... the weekend couldn't of turned out further from the bliss we had imagined. The greeting staff were rude carrying out various other conversations at the same time as i was checking in. The bar staff were incredibly friendly however the food the kitchen produced was not, leaving me very ill for the remainder of the night which subsequently ruined the romantic weekend i had planned. I then asked to speak to the manager however the reception staff were reluctant to call and the manager to leave the office. I became very frustrated and asked for them to call my room to discuss the problem further, they agreed to call asap however they never did. With my weekend becoming more of a nightmare by the second i once again spoke to the reception staff who ensured me the managers were 'sorting' everything out, again they failed to do anything. All in all i had a diabolical weekend and would suggest to everyone who even considers this place to take a long hard think about the stress and upset it can cause.

I was initially attracted by the price and location - £40ish pounds per night for a single room, easy access to City and also the free wifi. However, what is really offputtting about this place is the smell from the bathroom, the stained bedcover and plastic sheets and the really tired looking decor. The rooms are really hot during the night too as some other reviewers have said and everything about this place reminds me of a care home for the elderly. On the positive side the staff are pleasant and friendly and breakfast is pretty good. But the negatives outweigh the positives. The bathroom floor is sticky and the bath is stained. Noise really travels throughout the hotel and if you need peace and quiet to sleep this is not the hotel for you. The windows don't shut properly and you get noise from the road outside. The beds are hard and have pretty tired looking blankets on them. I wouldn't stay here again.

The exterior of this house is lovely.
The interior excellent also.

We were relieved when we pulled up as there was a bar and resturaunt attatched which was convienient as we were tired after a long day at York.

The rooms where sufficiently clean, spacious and comfortable with a nice bathroom.

The Resturaunt reflected the way poms seem to cook all over the UK- average and over priced for what your eating. and there was no lift (which was fine because we were staying on the second floor).

The girl at the front desk was both nice and helpful.

Our overall stay at the Regency Hotel was great.

Go to the hotel if you would like to chill out in the front courtyard with a pint and sleep in a sufficient room, but not a fancy one.

The service we experienced at the Regency Hotel was friendly and efficient. The hotel was spotlessly clean and although some might consider it old-fashioned, we really liked the decor, which had a lot of character. Our room was smaller than some of the well-known chain hotels we have visited, but its size was perfectly adequate for two. The free wifi in the room was a great bonus. Breakfasts were fine; we didn't eat in the hotel for lunch or dinner. The location was quiet and leafy and it only took us about half an hour to walk into town. There were only two things that stopped me from giving the hotel an excellent rating: the toiletries in the bathroom came in paper sachets, which I don't like much, rather than little bottles. Also, there was a dinner dance on the Saturday night which we could hear quite clearly from our bedroom above, until about 12.30. We didn't mind, but if you want an early night at the weekend, you might do well to check what events are on during your stay. We didn't hear any noise at night on our other two nights.
