have just returned from staying at the campanile along with a group of about 40 friends who were all attending the same event. my friend who i was sharing with had already checked in therefore i went to the desk and asked for a key to the room- they happily gave me one without giving them any details!! this was not the only time they did this with our group at the weekend including girls getting keys for other girls rooms.
the room itself was clean enough, TV didnt work as the ariel was in bits and the main lights did not work. the room was also very warm and with no aircon was quite unbearable to sleep in. but we were only paying £34 a night and knew it was full therefore just got on with it. Friends had been quoted the same rate over the phone but found on arrival that were being charged full rate (£70) and did not have any proof or any option but to pay as there was other events on in the area and all the other local hotels were fully booked.
i did not eat in the restaurant myself however a friend told me that she had ordered a sandwich in there and when it came it had a 3 inch hair included. when she returned the sandwich to the member of staff that had served her, his response was 'and'. thus she had to complain to the manager who addressed the complaint by not charging her for the meal.
on check out i left a carrier bag in there with a few worthless items in and my TomTom from the car. i remembered about twenty mins later and my friend returned to the room to collect it. there was a chambermaid in the room apparently just stripping the beds however the bag had been moved (i had left it out the way next to the wall to ensure we did not stand on it by accident) she checked and the the TomTom was not there and returned locally to tell me. i personally went back to check approx 10 mins later and the bag had been moved again however the tomtom was still nowhere to be seen. i reported this to the manager and advised that i would call the police if this could not be found to give them chance to return it. he spoke to the head housekeeper (the same lady who cleaned the room) who advised she had not seen it. i called the police who arrived approx 30 mins later (all the time the chambermaid had been left to her own devices) who searched the locker and the laundry room to no avail. the police advised there was nothing else they could do but advised this kind of thing was a regular occurance at this hotel.
my advice is just stay somewhere else- dont be tempted by the cheap rates and pleasant exterior or it could end up costing you a lot more.
as a group we stay at various hotels across the country on a regular basis. This is not the first time we have experienced an incident like this at the Campanile chain of hotels. at the one in hull, my friend had a large sum of money stolen from her room during the day. when she returned later that night she was actually made to feel like it was her in the wrong and was asked to leave the hotel, at 1am!!!
it seems the companies policies are questionable indeed and i would not recommend anyone to stay here again and certainly will not stay at any campanile again
