“Food good, service friendly”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

Had heard poor reviews from boaters! However, our experience was different. Typical pub food in typical pub, but pleasant, surrounding. Service was adequate at the bar and good at the table. The meal was tasty and good value for money. The beer and drinks were very good. Somewhere we may visit again if in the area. A welcome break for our canal holiday, with good safe moorings between packhorse bridge and Kings Lock. Menu good but not extensive. However, would cover mosts tastes and requirements.

Hello.
Thanks for popping in to see us whilst on your peaceful canal holiday.
Sorry (and surprised) to hear someone gave us a bad review off the boats as in the past 3 years we've ran the pub we've met and served some lovely people off the canal, even sorting food out for them very late at night etc.
We are so pleased you enjoyed our visit, and glad you took the time to write about it.
With such a lovely written review, we weren't sure why we only got a 3 out of 5.
If you can let us know how to put those 2 more stars on for you, please feel free to email us some feedback.
Thank You

“Fantastic pub, excellent service, great food”
Reviewed 10 March 2014 via mobile

I go to this pub on a regular basis and I'm always greeted with a warm welcome. I have not got a bad word to say about the place. The food is excellent and all home made with a good varied menu including a fantastic bangers and mash menu and many different burgers. There is always a wide range of real ales on offer so there's always something new to try. It's not hard to see why this pub has won awards and is one of the CAMRA top ten! Well done to the landlord landlady and all the staff keep up the excellent service and thankyou for always making my experience a happy one.

“Do make a reservation”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

This pub was chosen because of its Tripadvisor rating and overall I wasn't disappointed. I 'phoned the pub before to check if a reservation was needed. They advised not. When we arrived the pub was fairly full. All tables bar one were either reserved or full. The one remaining table had just been vacated, was dirty and near the bar. The table was quickly serviced and cleaned. The pub filled up until about 9.30 pm and we were sometimes jostled by customers being served at the bar. This problem eased later. The beer (Everards Original) was excellent. The menu was reasonably priced and varied. The food generally was very good. Unfortunately the dumplings in the stew were under cooked. The kitchen attempted to deal with this but the dumplings remained under cooked. The owner/manager? was mortified and reduced our bill by 50%. I will return but I will make a rservation next time.

“Great Village Pub”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

Whilst I don't live in the area, I use this as my local pub. Like everyone else has said, the beer is great and constantly changing, the food is superb (recommend the Sunday lunch but you have to book because it gets so busy) and I try to get to the beer festivals that are HUGE. Whilst this is a local pub you will not see lots of young lads & lasses which is a shame but the customers that they have in are friendly and welcoming.
I love the fire that has been roaring all winter,
Well done Alan, Sarah & team I believe the reviews are fair and a true reflection on this Great British Inn

“If Carlsberg made local pubs......”
Reviewed 20 February 2014

For a long time we struggled for a decent local in Aylestone, then came the new owners to the Black Horse. What more could you want, great homemade food, a constant change of beers, ciders and largers, regular entertainment, great beer garden, fab hosts and loads of events that other pubs would have the time or imagination to deliver. This pub won an award recently and they thoroughly deserve it. This is a great pub and I'm over the moon to have it on my doorstep.
