“A great local pub”

We ate here today and the Sunday lunch was great, and my son enjoyed the local sausages in his meal. Great range of real ales, and welcoming staff.

We will be back!

“Friendly pub nice garden area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

We have been to this pub several times, normally during the summer as part of a walk through the Meadows. Food has always been fine so we decided to try Sunday lunch. The beef was so tough we couldn't even cut through it. However the dog enjoyed it enormously. Some people at the next table glanced across sympathetically and said 'Did you have beef, it's really tough isn't it?'. When the young waitress came across while we were attempting to cut the beef to ask if everything was ok we mentioned that we couldn't cut the meat 'Oh' she said 'do not want some more?'. Mmmmm... not really!

Hi.
We were gutted that the Beef didn't meet your approval that Sunday.
Such an unfortunate thing.
Glad the dog enjoyed it, as you know we love doggies.
We were pleased that you have visited us several times, it is such a lovely walk across the Aylestone Meadows.
Our waitress was following our procedures by providing a courtesy check on your meal to offer any changes just in case something isn't up to standard.
Thank you for taking the time to write 'Friendly Pub nice garden area'

“Great beer and amazing value food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

A group of four of us work colleagues visited here at the start of a two week stay in Leicester. We were attracted by the pub's entry in the Good Beer Guide 2014, and the Everards beers lived up to expectations. We each had a main course too, with two of us having the hand battered cod and chips, which we both remarked were the biggest cod, crispest batter and least watery fish we'd had in some time.

We sat in the lounge side of the pub as the locals clocked us on entering the bar, but all the staff were friendly, welcoming and, combined with the food and drink, ensured we will visit at least once more before we go home.

“Food good, service friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

Had heard poor reviews from boaters! However, our experience was different. Typical pub food in typical pub, but pleasant, surrounding. Service was adequate at the bar and good at the table. The meal was tasty and good value for money. The beer and drinks were very good. Somewhere we may visit again if in the area. A welcome break for our canal holiday, with good safe moorings between packhorse bridge and Kings Lock. Menu good but not extensive. However, would cover mosts tastes and requirements.

Hello.
Thanks for popping in to see us whilst on your peaceful canal holiday.
Sorry (and surprised) to hear someone gave us a bad review off the boats as in the past 3 years we've ran the pub we've met and served some lovely people off the canal, even sorting food out for them very late at night etc.
We are so pleased you enjoyed our visit, and glad you took the time to write about it.
With such a lovely written review, we weren't sure why we only got a 3 out of 5.
If you can let us know how to put those 2 more stars on for you, please feel free to email us some feedback.
Thank You

“Fantastic pub, excellent service, great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014 via mobile

I go to this pub on a regular basis and I'm always greeted with a warm welcome. I have not got a bad word to say about the place. The food is excellent and all home made with a good varied menu including a fantastic bangers and mash menu and many different burgers. There is always a wide range of real ales on offer so there's always something new to try. It's not hard to see why this pub has won awards and is one of the CAMRA top ten! Well done to the landlord landlady and all the staff keep up the excellent service and thankyou for always making my experience a happy one.
