“A trip to Lincoln Cathedral”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

We visited Lincoln specifically to visit the cathedral which was well worth the trip. The hotel is in a superb location and we had a room overlooking the cathedral. the food was very good, breakfast especially as although it was a buffet all the food was freshly prepared and not kept warm unnecessarily. We enjoyed a trip on the river and the Usher Gallery

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have an excellent view (if you like cathedrals) and are light.

The hotel was very good but why did the wedding party have tablecloths on their breakfast tables?. More to the point............. why didn't we or the other guests? Another point was that any cutlery was left on the table after breakfast whether the people before had or hadn't used it. I would have thought that the waiter would have cleaned away everything for health reasons. But it was a lovely hotel!!!

Room Tip: 302 ...................... The toilet took some flushing!!!!!!!

Dear Guest

Thank you for sharing your kind review on Tripadvisor.

I was very pleased to read that you enjoyed staying with us, and think that we have a lovely hotel.

In answer to the table cloth query; on occasion when we have some larger parties staying with us, they usually like to dine all together for breakfast. In order to accommodate this request we have to replace some of our normal breakfast tables with our larger banqueting tables, it is these tables that require a cloth to be used on them. Our normal breakfast tables are polished wooden tops that don’t require a linen cloth as they slip off this style of table.

We look forward to welcoming you back at The Lincoln Hotel soon.

Yours sincerely

Stayed with my mum for a lovely 2 night stay at The Lincoln, we were given a room with a balcony overlooking the Cathedral which was great, the room was compact but modern and had everything needed including tea/coffee/biscuits/shower gel/soap/shower cap/nail file/hairdryer, etc.. as well as chairs/table.
We didn't work out the aircon on the first night and were very hot, but switched it on on the second night and temperature was fine!
We had dinner in the hotel both nights, the first night in the bar (no booking required), which was very nice food and great service. The second night (Friday) there was a wedding, so we opted for the Green Room which was a bit pricier but proper gourmet food and again great service.
Breakfast was plentiful and lots of options, including gluten free toast and soya milk, the staff were friendly and happy and pleased to help/give advice. The car park was also free and convenient for town, although being next to the Cathedral it is at the top of aptly named "Steep Hill", great for going into town, not so much for coming back! Another reason we opted to eat in.
A very nice hotel with very pleasant staff.

Room Tip: 3rd floor overlooking the cathedral is a very nice view and not too noisy

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review, I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at The Lincoln Hotel.

I will ensure that your comments are passed on to the staff concerned as they all work extremely hard to maintain high levels of customer service for all our guests.

It is also very pleasing to hear your positive comments about the standard of food, both at Breakfast and in the Green Room. All the staff are even more excited now as the Green Room Restaurant has just recently won Restaurant of the Year in the Select Lincolnshire Food, Drink & Hospitality Awards 2014.

I look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit.

We chose this hotel principally because of its location, close to the Cathedral - just couldn't be closer - and the 'bus stop (both the 'open top' tour 'bus and the regular 'Walk and Ride 'bus). There is complimentary car parking for guests which is very welcome.

Our room had a balcony and view over the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral and a.good walk-in shower for my wife (who has a slight disability). It was a decent size and had a HD digital, flat screen TV..

There was no fridge, no complimentary water, and no trouser press but the room was a decent size and the bed extremely comfortable. There was also a complimentary refreshments tray.

There is a very good continental and full English breakfast and 'The Green Room' serves first class food in the evenings. The staff are friendly and efficient - we would single out Ashleigh for special mention, always smiling and for her every request is met with a positive and helpful response.

the main passenger lift has a mind of its own, regularly opening half way and then closing violently again. We witnessed several guests encountering this problem in addition to ourselves. This should be attended to without delay!

We noted on arrival that the main lounge area looked very shabby but then discovered it had been given a makeover in the last 12 months. We were astounded!

As Lincoln town centre is very hilly, this hotel is worth considering for its location and closeness to the Ring Road. For that reason alone, we would look at it again if we returned to this City.

Room Tip: Ask for a Cathedral view

Dear Guest

Thank you for sharing your recent review on Tripadvisor.

I was very pleased to read that you had an enjoyable stay with us, especially as you were looked after so well. I will ensure to pass on your kind comments to Ashleigh and the rest of the team. However, after giving Ashleigh the special mention above, I am confused as to why you then scored us down within the Service area but also thanked the staff for delivering every request in a positive and helpful way?

Although our building is quite old, we like to embrace the 1960’s features that we still have - they add to its charm and character. We are still only a three star property and are limited to this due to some of our physical features but we feel we deliver above the expected three star criteria in most areas.

This does not prevent us from constantly updating and refurbishing each room in turn to ensure that we continue to modernise our offer. As we are privately owned, we feel that we can offer a friendly, warm welcome with personable service to rival any branded corporate operation.

We hope to see you again soon and look forward to welcoming you back to The Lincoln Hotel.

Yours sincerely

Would have given 5 stars if served Fairtrade tea and coffee. All good though. Bar 67 a real trip back in time. It's on top of hill but plenty of restarants and pubs and shops around there. Would go back

We stayed here last Sat with a Travel Zoo deal. It was very good value for money. The room was nice and opposite the cathedral. Comfy bed and air con included.Saying that I don't think I would have paid £131 which is the going rate normally charged! We got it For £99 and that included a glass of bubbly each and £20 each knocked off our restaurant bill.
The restaurant food was some of the best we have had in a hotel and would thoroughly recommend to anyone.
There was a wedding on in the hotel on the Sat and also the Sun morning this meant the bar was unavailable but a waiter brought drinks through into the reception if you wanted them so no problem.
The breakfast was very good and plentiful and you just helped yourself.
Even though the wedding party was in full progress when we went to bed we didn't hear it.Maybe it was the effect of the wine!! Lol
Anyway well done to all the staff - they were very helpful and friendly and we would certainly look to stay there again!

Thank you for your review, I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at The Lincoln Hotel.

I will ensure that your kind comments about our friendly staff are passed on to them as they all work extremely hard to maintain high levels of customer service.

It is true that our function room bar is unavailable when we host private functions but we always have the offering of waiter service for drinks in our Reception Lounge. Alternatively our public bar is a retro cellar bar called Bar 67, which is located on the ground floor. It has a great vibe, serving up good quality drinks whilst also hosting live music performances from local aspiring artists.

It is also very pleasing to hear your positive comments about the standard of food, both at Breakfast and in the Green Room. All the staff are very proud as the Green Room Restaurant won Restaurant of the Year in the Select Lincolnshire Food, Drink & Hospitality Awards 2014.

Reservation:Called to book direct on planned day of arrival and price quoted was more than the Booking.com.
There was no attempt to negotiate by the joyless telephonist which is a bit daft as they lost my two room booking to Booking.com where I achieved a better rate and the Lincoln paid commission.
Arrival: car park is controlled by barriers: the exit barrier being permanently open meant this was the easiest way in without fuss. There was a knock on however; must have missed the £5 charge notice for parking which appeared on my room bill.
Check in: functional and slightly lacking in confidence young man on the desk: little in the way of a warm welcome.
Room: well appointed, very clean, good space and comfortable. A good night's sleep was had. The only negative was the intercommunicating door betwixt the room next door was bereft of sound proofing.
Bar: Staff hard had to be found to serve and lacked in customer engagement. Bar meal was satisfactory and bridged the gap. Surroundings overlooking the Cathedral - most impressive.
Breakfast: Good display/selection and cheery service - well set up for the day.
Checkout: Room accounts not to hand; had to be printed off; a slow process resulting in delays and queuing.
General: no evidence of management/supervision which might have sparked up the staff performance.
As an overnight business hotel, I've rated a generous 'very good'; yes it performed ahead of the P'Inns & T'lodges, however it has the potential to be so much more memorable and encourage a 'must definitely stay again' result. Come on the Lincoln, up your hospitality game.
