We stayed for one night at The White Hart. Situated in the uphill cultural quarter of this gorgeous city, The White Hart is in the perfect spot - for the shops, for the many city attractions including the Cathedral and the Castle. Free parking is available to guests in the car park just across from the hotel, this is a fabulous bonus as parking in Lincoln is not cheap.

We were lucky enough to get room 400 - on the top floor of the hotel and accessed by a wonderfully quaint, old-fashioned lift. Room 400 is the ONLY room on this floor - making us feel very special. Not only does the suite have it's own sitting room, there is also access to a private roof garden/balcony - a wonderful place to take in the views over Lincoln and especially fabulous in the evening when the Cathedral (which is almost within touching distance) is lit up by the floodlights.

Room 400 is a large, clean and very comfortable suite. The sitting room has a large leather settee, coffee table, writing desk and TV - there were also a selection of local magazines. The bedroom is huge with views over the city and the Castle. The four poster bed is very comfortable, with top quality bedding. A kettle with assorted teas and coffees and biscuits is provided. Another TV in this room too. Plenty of storage space, with a walk-in wardrobe area that also contains an iron and ironing board. The bathroom is spacious, clean and has the best view of the Cathedral. Complimentary toiletries and large fluffy white towels and a heated towel holder. All in all, it is a perfect room - private, clean, warm, comfortable.

Check in was easy. We were welcomed warmly, everything was explained to us and we were offered help with our luggage. We had booked a table in the Grille and this was confirmed for us when we checked in. We had a couple of drinks in the bar which was fairly busy at teatime on a Friday - drinks were reasonably priced, with a good wine selection. The bar does very much busier in the evening, it seems to be a very popular place to be.

Our evening meal was delicious. We were seated at a table for two by the window where we could look out at the Bailgate. Delighted to received two complimentary glasses of fizz from management - a lovely touch. Our meals were the Lincolnshire Belly Pork and the Scallops - with a couple of side dishes. Bread, hummus and oil were brought out prior to the main course. The food was divine - perfectly cooked, presented beautifully, and the service was spot on. The waiting staff are knowledgeable, friendly and seem happy to serve their customers. We finished our meal with exquisite desserts; salted caramel macaroons and a shortbread tower - every mouthful was delicious.

After a very comfortable night's sleep we went down for breakfast. The breakfast area was spotless and the choice is huge. Cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, fruit juices, Danish pastries and a wide choice of hot food. We both opted for the full English breakfast and I have to say that the scrambled egg was the best that I've ever tasted. Plentiful supply of either tea or coffee and freshly made toast. Again, the waiting staff were friendly and service was excellent.

We were very sad to leave, but check out was painless and reception staff were so friendly.

The perfect night away in a wonderful hotel - we hope to return very soon!

We stayed for three nights and were delighted to be upgraded on our arrival. Our room was the size of a small suite with fantastic views of Lincoln Cathedral. The room was clean with lovely decor all in keeping with the hotels listed status. My only criticism would be that the tv was a little on the small size, the pillows were too firm and I never like shower curtains, please put glass shower doors on! Otherwise this was a lovely hotel with friendly staff and in a perfect location for exploring the cathedral quarter of the city. The food in the Grille restaurant was also very good. Parking is in the hotels own car park immediately opposite and is free to guests and wifi is also free. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

This visit was arranged by friends as a treat.
It was dirty, dingy and dark, moved to restaurant brighter but no cleaner, very wobbly table, stains seats. The place was empty which tells you a lot. The air conditioning was broken (a staff member told me it happens a lot.)
Afternoon tea menu was very disappointing. service was terrible, staff hostile. There are much better places to eat in Lincoln!!
It was so terrible I complained and I was promised a call from the general manager but he never even bothered to ring!

My friend and I spent 3 nights at this lovely old hotel, perfectly situated in the heart of old Lincoln and a stone's throw from the cathedral and castle. The hotel has had a major overhaul since I last stayed there, and is now described as a 'boutique' hotel. What DOES that mean? Our twin room was very nice, at the back of the hotel overlooking the cathedral. Oh, the bells!! They start at 7am and chime every quarter, so be warned! There was no lounge, which was a pity, and after paying £17 for a medium glass of wine and a large Tia Maria we did not use the cocktail bar again. Neither, it seemed, did anyone else as it was usually empty. Most of the staff were polite but less than enthusiastic. Breakfast was NOT included in our deal, which came as a surprise, and we were charged £10 each for a reasonable breakfast.

Room Tip: You can't really escape the bells, but rooms at the back are worst affected.

Knowing that 2 of our party of 4 had specific dietary requirements (one just vegetarian, one wheat intolerant vegetarian) I booked well in advance for a special Birthday Tea at (as I was led to believe) Lincoln's Premier Hotel.
How disappointed we all were. Decor and furniture tired and scuffed. Walls and paintwork dirty in places, Windows and glass doors marked with greasy fingerprints Food looked reasonable but waiting staff could not or would not deviate from set menu . Initial staff contact good but upon meeting the Restaurant Manager to voice concerns, Customer Service was the last thing on this young lady's mind. Argumentative, dismissive and generally very unpleasant. She did not allow for us- the customers- to put concerns forward.Very very disappointing experience.

A friend from some years ago came back to Lincoln, staying for a week at the White Hart.We met her there on her first evening and enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours over drinks in the friendly ambiance of the Grille bar.On our second rendevous, we decided to eat in the Grille restaurant. Our meal was beautifully presented by a smiling waitress. The quality was excellent and I was impressed that they served Liver, an old favourite of mine. The four in our party expressed in glowing terms their whole experience. My previous visit to the White Hart, some years ago did not impress me since it was at that time anachronistic and old fashioned. Now there is a vibrancy about the place with Quality and customer care at the top of the agenda. Well done everyone
