My mum and I booked 2 rooms for 5 nights in October 2012.
The location was perfect for exploring both uphill and downhill Lincoln. It was an easy walk both ways. We favoured uphill which is where the cathedral and castle are. There are some lovely smaller shops in this area and I highly recommend The Lion & Snake pub for a friendly atmosphere and great meals at excellent prices.
The hotel itself is run by Mandy and Mark who were both so friendly and made our stay a lovely one. From the handwritten welcome note with wine in our rooms on arrival to helping us out when we were 'in a pickle'..nothing was too much trouble.
Our rooms were comfortable with lovely views over the park below.
The breakfast in the conservatory was delicious and we really enjoyed chatting to our hosts.
There is limited on site parking. We were able to get a park each night. I would suggest reversing down the driveway and into a park as the area's very tight, and it makes it a lot easier to get past other cars coming out forwards.
Would definitely stay there again and highly recommend this small family-run hotel.
Thanks Mandy and Mark for making us so welcome,
Helen & Janet from Melbourne, Australia.

I first used this hotel back in 1983 for work trips to Lincoln, I have been back on occasion over the last three decades with family and friends. The last stay was Saturday 16th Feb 13 - It really is a great place to stay either on a trip to Lincoln or passing through. As a few other advisor's have written it is just a short walk up the hill from the city and a little off the beaten track - its the best location for a stroll around the cathedral, it is in very quite surroundings with the park at the back.
Ignore the advisor's who say it is dated for me that is one of the attractions - it in no way detracts from the charm and quality in my view. Breakfast is superb they really take care of you and the food is very good, one of the best, clean and tasty breakfasts I have had in a lovely south facing sun trap of a conservatory.
It is a typically tall building for the area set in the hillside loads of stairs so perhaps not for the elderly or people who struggle with stairs.
Apart from that I would definitely recommend you try it.

Room Tip: Rooms 10 and 11 are the largest and best fitted out. generally all rooms to the rear are better for the views over the park room 10 is our favourite.

We have visited the Hillcrest on numerous occasions and only have wonderful things to say about the owners and their customer service. The food is always fabulous and the service attentive, personalised and efficient. We will continue to visit again and again

Enjoyed a nice pleasant weekend stay in November, so not many guests. The the bar was closed on our first night, so given a complimentary bottle of wine. Cannot complain. Comfortable bed, room nice and warm and excellent breakfast. Shower adequat. Short uphill walk to the Cathedral, or down hill to the Royal Theatre and the City Centre. Would stay at the Hillcrest, if visiting Lincoln, again. I booked with the hotel direct.

Room Tip: Book with the hotel direct, much better than using web sites, you speak to a person and there can be no mistake when booking a room.

Nice hotel, eating area and bar very comfortable, staff very welcoming and helpful.

Rooms are clean and tidy but need a little TLC. Has the potential to be very good.

Note:- if you book, ring up and book a meal in the evening of your stay. I didn't and ended up eating out which was ok are The Adam and Eve and Peacock pubs are just round the corner and very good.

Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice and is eaten in a lovely room/conservatory which has great views over Lincoln Arboretum.

Note:- there is limited on site parking but you can park in the road outside. If you do park in the hotel, be aware thar wet leaves make it tough to get up the hill with rear wheel drive. If it snows god help you...
