“Short Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2013

We visited the HIllcrest in Lincoln for a two night stay. We found the hotel very pleasant overlooking the arboretum. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable.

The breakfast was good and filling and our host welcoming, helpful with a very happy disposition. .

Our host told us about a museum in Lincoln called Lincoln Life which was so interesting and extremely well done. If we had not been told about this wonderful museum we would have missed a great experience so thank you for that. If we visit Lincoln in the future we would certainly rebook. Good luck in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the arboretum which is a lovely scene to look out on.

We enjoyed this quiet, peaceful and classic hotel as the base for a college reunion. The bedroom, reception and dining room where all in good Lincoln heritage style. The breakfast was good and everyone friendly.

I have just had a one night stay at this lovely hotel. Usually I don't tend to book 2 star establishments but I had looked at this and thought it was worth a go and I am so glad I gave it a chance. The welcome was warm and friendly and nothing was a problem to the staff at all. We were even able to check in at 10.30 in the morning when we weren't suppose to be checking in until 2 pm. The rooms are well appointed, clean and nice and light and airy. The beds were extremely comfortable and I had a fantastic nights sleep. Breakfast the next morning was served swiftly and was spot on. The only reason why this hotel is not rated higher on the stars front is because it doesn't meet certain criteria like a full time receptionist, however this was never a problem as someone was always on hand if you required anything. This is a lovely, friendly hotel and I will definitely stay here again when I visit Lincoln.

I stayed one night on business as the usual chain hotels I use in Lincoln were fully booked.

I was warmly greeted and found I had room 10 on a corner aspect looking over Lincoln and a local park; very peaceful. I had a large room with four poster and high ceiling which was a pleasant change from the the regular boxes in chain hotel,

In the evening I walked 10 minutes downhill into Lincoln for a meal; therefore it's an uphill return after food and drink.

There was some noise in the room from other guests, mostly squeaking floor boards as they move around.

Breakfast in the conservatory was very relaxed; white tablecloths and cafetieres. No coffee machine or self service here. Breakfast are cooked to order.

If you want an early start, breakfast is served from 07:30 hrs.

Would happilly stay again but would be reluctant to walk into Lincoln to eat in the cold, wind and rain in winter. The hotel serves bar meals in the evening.

Car park is very tight; park on the road if you have a large car.

Hillcrest is in a great location for Lincoln, being just a short walk from the cathedral, castle and Steep Hill. The hotel overlooks the aboretum, which makes for a quiet, peaceful location. We enjoyed the views both from our room and the delightful conservatory, where we enjoyed a pre-dinner G&T later.
The room was an adequate size and the en suite, while small, met our needs - though we did spot a bit of mould in the corner in the shower (hence only 4 stars). Style wise, the room and hotel in general are decorated in a classic style, but with a contemporary feel. It definitely has the feel of a fairly fresh refurbishment, so some of the older reviews here that says it is outdated are possibly outdated themselves now.
Breakfast was lovely, my husband enjoyed the full English, while I went for one of the lighter options. Both very nice, and the service was excellent, as it was throughout our stay.
In general we would recommend Hillcrest and would return if back in the area.

Room Tip: Room 5 had nice views over the aboretum.

This lovely hotel is in a wonderful location overlooking the Arboretum, but a short walk from the Cathedral, shops & pubs. We were really pleased with the room ( apart from the fact that the previous occupant had been selfish enough to smoke in the room despite all the no smoking signs!! an open window & air freshener soon sorted that out) which was tastefully decorated as is the rest of the hotel. What made this hotel so memorable though was the friendly owners, will happily stay here again.

Upon arrival we were greeted with open arms, almost like returning home to a family even though we'd never visited the Hillcrest previously.
We were given directions to our room and were offered information on surrounding areas which was very nice and unexpected as we have never even been offered by much larger hotels in larger cities such as Sheffield. On the way up to our room we were pleasantly surprised by the warm, well decorated and furnished landing areas.
Our room was very pleasing in regards to the furnishing and the style of decoration, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very well laid out, even after a shower, expecting the room would be cold upon returning into it, it wasn't, it was lovely and warm. Every thing was very clean and tidy and even though we only stayed two nights we were very surprised by the attendance of a cleaner!
The views from our room were very nice, over looking the arboretum and the Hillcrest is located conveniently close to the Cathedral area and yet still nice and close to town itself.
The member of staff which we spoke to answered all of are queries and was very helpful in every aspect of our stay.
I'd highly recommend the Hillcrest to anyone looking for a nice peaceful stay in a wonderful hotel within a nice area of Lincoln!!
We hope to visit again in the near future!
