“good place to stay in Lincoln”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Positive points:
Location, location, location...!
Very genial and helpful hosts Sue and David
Good, comfy bed with excellent bed linens
LUXURIOUS towels
Good bath products -- gel and soap
Fine breakfast, with an excellent sausage
Great view from our room and from breakfast room
Good TV, wifi

Bad points:
Very weak shower
Overpowering (gag-producing) "air freshener" smell in bathrooms; would recommend that it be toned down
Really dirty kettle; would recommend that you do this "easy fix".

On balance, a handy place to stay, so close to everything and a good price.

Thank you, Sue and David

This B&B was ideal in location being at the top of Lincoln, easy walking distance to the cathedral and castle, 10 to 15 mins. For the more adventurous then a walk down steep hill for the shops and restaurants and back after a meal would soon burn off the calories. For those less agile then there is a local bus available in the next street. The hosts, Sue and David, were friendly and helpful regards the local area. Breakfast was superb and all fresh food, prepared with care and attention. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with plenty of room for clothing and relaxing. Any dietary requirements were well catered for. Excellent value, It is now on our list for a revisit in the future.

My first visit to Lincoln & I was initially a little disappointed by the B&B's distance from the action, the center of town. In fact, it's a very easy, level, ten minute walk & perfectly safe at night. I understand David has run the B&B for many years & Sue is relatively new to the trade but she's a natural - I found them both to be very helpful and relatable. As a single traveler, I am most concerned about safety as well as noise when booking at new places. I felt perfectly safe & at ease at the Mayfield Guest House & never heard a peep from other guests at night. A lovely B&B and a great value. I will be back.

Room Tip: Next time, I want the haunted room.

We came here on Valentines evening during terrible weather. The room was warm as toast and so was our welcome. Room was huge and immaculately presented. Breakfast was super and the location could not be better. A nice easy stroll on the flat to bars and restaurants and then down Steep Hill into town. A little tricky to find and I would strongly suggest you print out directions. Great stay.

What a lovely place to stay. Welcoming, warm and friendly hosts, comfortable, warm room (bed was lovely and soft) and the breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. Went in December for the Christmas Markets. So pleased that we chose this guest house just a few minutes walk from the markets and just a few more to the town itself.
Plenty to see and do in the town even found a wetherspoons at the bottom of 'Steep Hill' so had some good exercise walking back up this hill after a good evening meal. Will certainly be coming to this gem of a guest house again in the near future to see Lincoln out of season and would certainly recommend it.

Have stayed at the Mayfield Guest House before and returned again this year for the Christmas Markets. Since the last time the rooms have been re furbished and are very clean and comfortable. The quality of the breakfast is great and I would thoroughly recommend to anyone going to stay in Lincoln. The Cathedral is a 10 minute walk which is well worth a visit. The hosts Sue & David couldn't do enough for you and made you feel at home !

A warm welcome from the host and a lovely warm room on a freezing november eve. An Unfussy checkin and a clean bright room was just what i wanted. Myself and a collegue stayed two nights, the Mayfeild is a ten minute walk to the enchanting medieval centre of Licoln. A great range of pubs and resturants to chose from.
I slept so well in a very comfortable bed and was greeted by a blilliant view west across the country side in the morning. Tea, coffee, hot choclate in the room and a milk jug for fresh milk on request, nice touch.
A very good breakfast in the baywindow with the bonus of classic Fm to ease you in to the day.
We had a couple of minor mishaps, a lost phone and a last minute taxi and the owners went the extra mile to help out. An indipendant establishment with character, that applies to the guest house and the owners.

Room Tip: room number four for a great view.
