as a family we love afternoon teas (proper afternoon teas, finger sandwiches, petit fours etc) and they are always our first choice when on a day out. Our previous 'Top afternoon tea' was at Alnwick Castle but we have a new winner, Bells Tea & Coffee house, Lincoln.
It was an inauspicious start, when we arrived the place was nearly empty, being after lunchtime and out-of-season. But we got a generous welcome from the staff and sat in a window table to watch the world go by whilst we waited for our order.
it took a little while but we were regularly updated. When it arrived it was well worth the wait, freshly made sandwiches, beautiful little cakes and macaroons, lemon pot, fresh baked scones with a generous amount of local jam and clotted cream.
We started to tuck in and with 10 mins the place filled up as passers by peered in, saw our spread and dove in.
We had the tea for 3 and ordered an extra round of prawn sandwiches (we couldn't decide which flavours we wanted, but there was more than enough without the extra) and got change from £40 which for the amount, quality and quantity was great value for money.
We heartily recommend a visit if you're in the area.
