On a slow stroll down steep hill, we came across the Bookstop cafe, which I had been in before under some of its many previous guises. The decor is stylish and the tables not too overcrowded as in some tea shops. The selection of teas and cakes were good, the tea and coffee being supplied by the tea importers above and the cakes homemade. The service was very friendly and the prices very reasonable. The teas came in very stylish glass pots with the most beautiful and delicate cups and saucers. We could have spent all afternoon drinking tea and looking at books, but alas we had to move on, however we will undoubtedly be frequent visitors!

A real gem towards the top of the steep climb up the hill, in a mediaeval cellar. Superb home made cakes and pastries, with a range of teas and coffees from the famous Imperial Teas upstairs. But the best bit is the wonderful relaxing atmosphere with an eclectic selection of books by independent authors to read and/or buy. And you seem to be able to sit as long as you like! Fab-u-lous!

As you reach the top of the climb from the town centre towards the cathedral, this brand new teashop is directly in front of you. Opened only in May 2013, it is situated in a barrel vaulted cellar under a tea shop. The owners provide a very personal service. You can get a 'proper' coffee, but not a latte or cappuccino. And a fine choice if teas.

The offering here still feels as though it is bedding in, but it is a heck of a good start and the owners deserve every success for what they are trying to achieve.
