When the weather is blistering sunshine as it has been recently the Arboretum is a nice, green park in the middle of Lincoln. A great place to sit and relax in the sun and not too far from the town centre.

The Arboretum is situated about a 6/7 minute walk from the well known Usher Gallery and not much more from the city centre. You access it along the cosmopolitan and inner city Monks Road.

I would thoroughly recommend it for a visitor to Lincoln and it is well maintained by the city council and a credit to them. It has something for everyone and what a joy it is to visit on a lovely sunny day - I could spend all morning there on one of the many seats. There are water features, a bandstand and a great view looking up to the splendid old and large Victorian houses. From the top of the park you also get nice views looking down beyond inner city Lincoln to the hills on the skyline.

My favourite part of the Arboretum is the Victorian terrace at the top and it is not difficult to envisage what it must have been like over 100 years ago when this would have been a really smart area. It does remind you of a bygone era. There is a cafe which unaccountably isn't open at the weekend. No on site parking is available and I would walk if possible. Side street parking can be found but is a bit of a challenge at times.

The Arboretum has long opening hours and if you are a visitor to Lincoln, do try and visit the Arboretum as well as the other obvious tourist attractions.

When you get footsore from walking around the castle and cathedral etc this is a great place to come and chill out. It is only a short walk from the old quarter and provides a welcome respite from the noise of the city. If you are having a packed lunch, this is the place to enjoy it.
