Owner description: Three great attractions. One great day out. Medieval Wall Walk. Victorian Prison. Magna Carta. Enjoy spectacular views across Lincolnshire from our completed Medieval Wall Walk. Visit the David P.J. Ross Magna Carta Vault and see one of only four remaining original Magna Carta along side the Charter of the Forest. Immerse yourself in the lives of prisoners and their daily routines in the Victorian Prison and see the unique separate system chapel. 1000 years of history - where it happened.

Lincoln Castle was disappointing because most of it was closed for refurbishing. Be sure to check before you go to make sure it's fully open. That said, you can spend hours in Lincoln Cathedral just across the way, making your stay in Lincoln well worth the time.

For the remainder of 2014 and early 2015 the Castle is in the middle of extensive works, this means swathes of the Castle are not passable. The entrance fee currently £2 reflects this and the staff at the entrance stress the fact and point out the areas that you will be able to see and what you won't. Free tour guide inside the Castle means that for the price of an ice cream you won't be short changed.

Most castles have stories about sieges and battles, but how many were also progressive prisons with a mixed population including children, a working law court and home of Magna Carta? - from next year anyway! We were lucky enough to have a special tour of the castle walls and soon to be open Victorian prison building and thoroughly recommend a visit to the castle... perhaps they'll have found out who the recently discovered buried Saxon bodies may have been by the time you visit... a mystery, and one of many stories you'll discover when at Lincoln Castle... and its very reasonably priced too!

Second time I have visited. The first time was a freezing cold day in December but the tour guide Ken Moore kept our family group ranging in age from 78 to 6 entertained for over an hour. The second visit was last weekend, again a family group and again Ken Moore. Despite having heard the tour before, he manages to totally absorb his listeners in the history of the castle. This group had a younger age range but even the three year old listener enjoyed himself. Even better, the family entrance fee was £5.20 - even though parts of the castle are closed for renovation Ken brings the history of the place to life. Would definitely recommend

We live close to this and visit regularly. Many recent works going on. New venue for the Magna Carta this year when it returns to the uk. Prison well worth exploring. Strange set up of the LINCOLN CROWN COURT in the grounds. Prisoners may think they are going to the rope!
