Despite a couple of visits to the county of Lincolnshire, this was our first time in Lincoln City and we were very impressed. We managed to park the car near to Sincil Bank (I believe there is a football team that play there called "Lincoln City Nil" or something like that...) and walked through the bus station, toward the City Centre and encountered a fantastic shopping centre. Then there was the climb! No wonder they call it "Steep Hill" - that`s an understatement! When we reached the Castle, we were informed that most of it was closed for refurbishment, but the medieval Joust was going ahead, in spite of the slightly inclement weather. We were treated to an afternoon of great fun, the highlight of which was a group of heavily armoured blokes, on horseback, attempting to maim each other, with wooden lances! Joking aside, a lot of work and preparation must have been put in by the historical society who organised the event. We have a great deal of respect for people who are passionate about what they do and these folk certainly fit in to that category.
We look forward to visiting again, when the refurbishment is complete.
