Lincoln castle gives an insight into the history of lincoln. Part of the castle was used as a Victorian prison, and prisoners of the time were hanged and buried within the grounds. There is the prison chapel which is well worth visiting as I haven't seen a chapel like it before. A walk along the castle walls gives great views across Lincoln and of the cathedral. One building within the castle walls is still used as a working court.
