Splendid boutique bed and breakfast in the heart of Lincoln, a couple of minutes walk from the Cathedral. Room was immaculate, breakfast cooked to order was excellent. All the staff we had dealings with were efficient, helpful and very nice.

A fine stay at a wonderful addition to Lincoln's overnight options. Placed perfectly on Steep Hill you have the option to climb to the Bail and the wonders of ancient Lincoln, or drop into the much improved city centre and wander along canalside.

The Rest is classy, very comfortable and has pleasant staff. The rooms, reception and bedroom, are all spotless and nicely done.

The only downside is for some reason it does not know what it is! Is if a cool contemporary place to stay open late into the night, or a cake and sandwich stop off. It should be the former but it is currently the latter.

My advice to The Rest is to seize the day. Your position is enviable and your opposition not great. Lincoln needs you!

Great place to stay and recommended.

We were attending a wedding near Lincoln and decided to stay the night before in the city itself, and stayed at The Rest. It was absolutely fab, great location near the cathedral.
First of all, it is quite hard to find so make sure you read the directions properly that are on their website, we didn't and got lost in the one way system! However, we rang the hotel and the very bubbly and helpful young lady on reception guided us in.
The room (Garden Room) was gorgeous, well appointed with fridge, iron and board, hairdryer, flat screen tv, huge bath and spotlessly clean. Lovely touch was the table and chairs outside in the garden area where you can sit out and listen to the birds singing, no traffic noise and yet you are in the centre of the city!
The breakfast was quite possibly the best breakfast we have had in a hotel in years, delicious.
We really couldn't fault anything, we really wanted to stay longer but couldn't as we had a wedding to get to, but we hope to return very soon!

Room Tip: Garden room, if you like to sit out and have your morning coffee on a nice day

Stayed one night at The Rest, having read positive reviews on TA. I stay away often on business and now try to shun the international chain hotels for restaurants with rooms, pubs with rooms and boutique B&B's.The Rest in Lincoln was a great find, luxury furnishings, great shower room and a good staff. Very central location. Only v small negative would be lack of A/C or ventilation leading to a very warm room, but I am assured they are addressing that.

Between us, my parents, my husband and I, have stayed in a variety of locations in Lincoln over the past three years, when visiting our daughter who has been a student at the University. Whilst all were acceptable, none was memorable. For the first time, seven of us travelled up together and we wanted somewhere central, but intimate, to stay. The Rest was perfect for our requirements.

We stayed in the Garden Suite, Garden Room and one of the Hall Rooms. All were impeccably clean and well furnished, with plentiful supplies of tea and coffee. The terrace was a haven of peace.

We did hit a minor issue over a slightly slow to deliver breakfast, but they were busy and also training a new member of staff, so this is easily forgiven, particularly as the quality of the good was good.

Would definitely stay again!

We stayed at The Rest for one night to visit the Cathedral and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The overall design and refurbishment of the building has been thoughtfully and sympathetically done to a very high standard, the various outdoor sitting areas are a particularly nice touch.

Our room was the Garden Suite which just lovely. Beautifully and tastefully furnished, huge comfy bed, well appointed bathroom with a super roomy shower (no bath, but personally I much prefer a generously-proportioned shower cubicle to a 'shower over bath' arrangement squeezed into the same space for the sake of adding a bath!).

The cafe/bar/breakfast area is delightfully laid-back and cosy. The breakfast itself was excellent, clearly cooked to order rather than dished out from warming trays, eg, I asked for crispy bacon and I got it. Delicious. My husband's scrambled eggs were also freshly made and creamy, not dried-out/overcooked like in so many hotels. I love the concept of no 'proper' restaurant / no room service / no mini-bar etc, a route that quite a few smaller hotels seem to be going down these days. It helps keeps prices reasonable and really, when a hotel is as well-located as The Rest - with lots of pretty restaurants/pubs/bars within easy walking distance - you don't miss those things. And I loved how the breakfast room doubles up as a cafe that non-residents can use as well. It gives the place a nice vibe. I suppose that the lack of a restaurant/ reception area etc is why it's listed under 'B&Bs' rather than 'hotels' on TA, but in reality it is much more of a classy little boutique hotel than a traditional B&B.

The staff were really friendly and helpful from start to finish - one even called us back without being asked because she'd noticed a missed call on her phone, very efficient! Another young woman happily made a restaurant booking for us. We met the owners at check-out and they were both absolutely charming and kindly listened to a couple of comments we had, which were subsequently acted upon (eg, adding detail to the driving instructions on the website). It's that kind of willingness to listen and attention to detail, on top of a brilliant location/lovely property, that sets a hotel apart. By the way, it's always going to be a little tricky to get to The Rest by car, but even if you get lost like we did, it's well worth any minor inconvenience/stress to be staying in such a smashing hotel right in the heart of the gorgeous, character-filled historic quarter.

I wish The Rest every success in the future, it really deserves to do well. A wonderful place to stay in Lincoln, definitely recommended.

My boyfriend and I visited 'The Rest' on a last minute trip to Lincoln. I haven't visited Lincoln before but I will definitely be returning...and staying at 'The Rest'. Our room was homely but modern and had excellent boutique features, including a wonderful shower, comfortable king-size bed and a sky light which you can see the night sky through. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and made to order. We were also offered hot drinks, juice, cereal and pastries. The staff were friendly and attentive and everything about our stay made us feel relaxed and spoilt.
