“Lovely Hotel Stay”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

We stayed here Saturday 28th December, the staff are very friendly and very helpful. The room was very clean and nicely decorated with a modern but contemporary feel. Breakfast was delicious and a great choice. It's located perfect for a Lincoln visit and we really enjoyed our stay here and will return again.

Booked one night, the Saturday before Christmas, to spend time just with my husband before the Christmas madhouse started. Lots of other hotels down below near the river but wanted to be in the historic area and encouraged by previous reviews. We were not disappointed - the décor was lovely, view fantastic and lots of interesting historical facts pointed out. Most importantly housekeeping standards to be applauded and also service; very friendly and helpful. Just double check checkout times - I sent the hotel an email (as laterooms booking said 10am) and they replied that it was 10am but for £5 we could buy a later checkout. We thought this was still unlikely for a Sunday morning and indeed on arrival reception confirmed that at weekends it was 11am. Breakfast was very good quality and service in a lovely room.

Room Tip: Executive rooms have a cathedral view, which is beautifully lit up at night.

I loved staying here. Great food and lovely rooms.
We managed to get a discount, and compared to lesser hotels in the area, it proved great value.
I would stay here again should I decide to visit Lincoln again.
So clean and well decorated.

Well done to the Management and Staff.

I enjoyed my time here. The place is a little difficult to find and signage needs to be improved. Check in was easy. My room was olde worlde but great. WIFI isn't really there, even though I brought an Ethernet cable with me, which for business isn't brilliant.

Food was fantastic, albeit the wine list is a little limited. The only two difficulties I had was the waiter downstairs who was taking orders before we went to the restaurant didn't know his menu, was quite ill informed and one of the girls had to take over. But for that and the WIFI, it would have got 5 stars!

We decided to treat ourselves and booked the junior suite which was a room called Tennyson. We were not disappoined, the room was decorated beautifully and was very clean with lovely views. Overall an excellent stay and would certainly stay again if we return to Lincoln.

We booked the hotel for its location to the Castle, Cathedral and Lincoln Market. The room was comfortable with all the amenities supplied.

The room came with an evening meal which was outstanding and would happy sit along any Michelin star restaurants. The staff were processional and attentive to a good level without being intrusive.

Your stay will not disappoint.

We booked in July 2013 for 4 people to stay in 2 rooms in December 2013. We often visit lincoln because our daughter is a University student there and we generally stay at either Holiday Inn Express or Travel Lodge which are on the outskirts of town but both offer very good value for money for budget hotels.
This particular trip was to celebrate our daughter's 21st and we decided that a more centrally situated hotel that could provide a little more luxury would be more appropriate.
With all the above in mind we booked two rooms at The Castle in Early July this year to accommodate my wife and myself and both our daughters over a period of three nights dinner bed and breakfast to celebrate the 21st.
Our enquiries with the hotel revealed a firm price for the rooms which which was verified by email by the hotel.
In early December we arrived at the hotel having, a few days before, received an email from the hotel explaining that our stay spanned The Lincoln Christmas Market and that access to the hotel would be limited due to road closures.
Our initial impression on arrival at the hotel was quite encouraging despite access problems created by The Christmas Market. The hotel is advertised as a luxury destination and has a tariff to match and when we arrived we were impressed with the quality of the rooms though they seemed small for the price bracket. we were not impressed that one of the rooms had no bath though the shower was modern and serviceable.
The first evenings meal was acceptable but not of great note. we stayed for three nights and ate for each of those nights in the hotel. The same menu each night and by the 3rd night between the four of us we'd eaten just about everything on the menu! In a "Luxury" hotel it would be good to see at least one fresh dish .
Our first full day there coincided with the first day of the Lincoln Christmas Market. The hotel has a rather small reception area which a bar and coffee area. In a "Luxury" hotel it's reasonable to expect the this area is for the use of hotel guests only. We're sorry to say that the hotel saw fit to open doors to all and sundry which had the sad effect of making the only"public" area in the hotel so overcrowded that that guests staying at the hotel were not able to use it
We booked this hotel for our special occasion but we can't help but feel that the management have taken their eye off the ball and have forgotten that customers are paying a lot to stay there. They seem to prefer to make a few extra pounds by taking advantage of passing christmas trade.
The whole situation was compounded when we booked out of the hotel and had a dispute regarding the bill. The owner was ,in my opinion, utterly rude about the matter.
We won't stay there again.Nor will we recommend it.
