“A pleasing place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

The hotel is in a quiet spot right next to Lincoln Castle with dedicated parking spots. For your money you get a modern, clean room which is spotlessly presented. The lack of a lift is not welcome but the staff are! We received a very efficient but friendly welcome from a young man who was very helpful indeed. Local knowledge provided many eating places within a relatively short walk, necessary as this hotel does not provide evening meals. The bar opened out onto a pleasant patio area with several seats and tables, a blessing in view of the heat wave we were experiencing. The breakfast was not the best we have had but it was well served and an adequate start to the day. Overall quite a good base from which to explore this old city.

Great news to hear that you were looked after so well by our staff here at Charlotte House. As you correctly identified, we do not have an active restaurant, (due to the number of functions that we host,) or a lift, (due to our premises being of listed status.)

We are very aware that some potential guests would require either a lift and/or a restaurant. Our advertising is made as clear as possible that we are not able to offer these services.

We trust that your stay with us still a positive one.

The food here is far below par. Small servings at an over-then-bar price for what's on offer; poorly cooked, unimaginative dishes. Hog roast was average in it's entirety with the side dishes, consisting of some sort of bland rice and overcooked pasta, proving to be an utter disappointment. Dessert was equally dull (a dry, burnt chocolate cake). I hear the hotel is excellent but I'd advise finding somewhere else to eat.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts on your recent event. I note that this is your first review as a Tripadvisor reviewer..

I am disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your hog roast, our most popular buffet style offering here at Charlotte House. With it being a buffet, guests have the ability to 'fill their plate,' and return for a second helping. As far as your comments on our desserts are concerned, I am sorry that the dessert you selected from our two choices, was not to your taste.

Our pricing here is and always has been in line with other similar offerings, in terms of quality, we pride ourselves on both the service and quality of all of all that we deliver.

I would urge future guests to make us aware of any issues whilst we have the ability to make amendments, rather than leaving a potentially damaging review. On the night of the event spirits were high and the comments that we received were very good. Had we known that there was any issue, no matter how trivial, we would have sought to make necessary changes.

If you should wish to discuss your concerns further, please contact us directly.

The hotel is not the most up to date or trendy available, but what is does have to offer is good old fashioned service, a great location and in the case if the Willis Suite, a lovely romantic set of rooms. Breakfast was very good too. We sat outside as it was a lovely morning, and the staff were very accommodating. The only small irritation is that it costs £5 to park overnight. If the Willis Suite is available, I wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

I was a guest at a wedding here right at the end of the month. It’s a great place for an all-in-one wedding package, a lovely outdoor area to wait before the service, a decent –sized room for the service (I was impressed with how reverently it was conducted and how meaningful it was); and champagne served after wards during the photographs. Most photographs were taken just outside the hotel or in the ground, but then we all walked across the road and had a group photo taken by the castle. Afterwards the bride and groom went into the castle for more photos and were returned by golf buggy to the reception.
The meal was held in an area which had formally been the front of the property, now enclosed in glass between the wings to make a large, light and airy room. I was impressed at the quality of the food we were served considering there were over 40 guests – we had a good tomato soup to start, then lamb shanks on a small bed of sweet potato puree with vegetables that were beautifully done. The meat on the lamb shanks just fell off the bone: wonderfully cooked. There was no hanging around, we were all served together and there were plenty of staff available. The white wine was kept in chillers. Dessert was a delicious crème brulee with a small scone and cream – I’d have liked a little jam with the scone to moisten it. More champagne appeared when it was time for the speeches. We moved away to allow the staff to prep the room ready for the evening function, which they did very efficiently. Cake cutting and dancing followed. As I did not stay the night, I cannot comment on the accommodation, but felt that the toilets needed a bit of updating. There is limited parking for residents just outside the back of the hotel, or a council-run car park just out the front- fortunately hidden from view by some lovely thick, tall bushes. There are many traveller photographs on the site to give you a flavour of what to expect – I certainly enjoyed my day.

Only stayed one night but very warm welcome, very pleased with our twin suite, very well furnished and kitted out. Its quite a quirky place, not your usual hotel and its location is excellent. We didn't avail of breakfast so can't comment on that. Would certainly recommend it.

This is classified as a 4 star hotel, it probably is, it has a 5 star location, by the beautiful castle and cathedral of uphill Lincoln, near lots of bars and restaurants, but his decor is only 3 star. We stayed in the two bedroom deluxe suite which was great, we paid £109 instead of the normal price of approx £300, we got a good price but no way was it worth £300.

A very conveniently located hotel; just a short stroll (on the flat) to Lincoln old town, the Cathedral and Castle. The house itself is and looks like the old nursing home it was, mostly converted. The front door to Reception certainly needs updating and re-designing for a more impressive entrance. The same imagination also needs applying to the internal doors which are worn and unsightly, lack character and don't seem to blend with the building. We stayed in The Wallis suite; 3 rooms in total and all very comfortable and clean. An enormous and restful four-poster bed with crisp white sheets and choice of pillows. There are two separate large flat-screen TVs, ample storage and a lovely modern bathroom with large free-standing bath and sizeable separate shower. The dining room is a spectacular conversion. Plenty of choice at breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, fruit juice, cold meats etc with waiter service for cooked-to-order hot food, toast, tea and coffee. The kippers were excellent. All staff are friendly and helpful especially Reception staff offering information on the local area. Pity the dining room is unavailable for dinner, but this does drive you out and about where there are plenty of places to eat. We hope there are plans to improve certain areas within - this could be a great hotel. Needless to say we had a great stay, good value and definitely recommended.

Thrilled to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us and consider our offering 'perfect for a city break.' We strive to offer our guests an excellent service from check-in to check-out. As per our advertising, our busy schedule with events and functions renders us unable to accept dinner guests at this stage, but who knows what the future will hold?!.

We shall look forward to welcoming you back upon your next visit to Lincoln
