“expected a lot more!!”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

we arrived at the Hilton on friday 10th Feb. first thing there was no parking and we had to park on John Lewis's carpark round the corner and carry all the bags to the Hotel.......this cost us £18 for 2 nights........NOT GOOD!!! This information was not shared with us upon booking which we feel it should have been. We had a meal there on our first night which was average and the portions where just too small, we had to keep asking for bread to fill us up. For a glass of wine it cost £8.95......EXTORTIONATE PRICES....!!!
The rooms where nice but too hot and the heating system would not cool down enough....not helped with no windows to open so we had 2 bad nights sleep as it was far to stuffy. The shower was nothing but a light dribble....we told them about this and they looked for us but not much difference was made.
I went to the gym in the morning and there where no lights on.....the televisions sound was not working.......they sent someone to look at them but could not get them working........nobody was supervising the gym and there was no music being piped through......not good atall really for a hotel holding the name Hilton.
The breakfast on the otherhand was fantastic.
We are not fussy people but we believe if you pay that amount of money you should get quality but we didn't.
we have stayed at the Double Tree Hilton in chester and that was fantastic.....the Liverpool one is not a patch on this one!!!!
i hope this helps!!!
p.s. I have stayed in better Travelodge's!!!!!!

I havent stayed over at this hotel so cant rate the rooms and breakfast. We come here to meet freinds or just to romanticize over cocktails and the wonderful male singer (rat pack/swing etc) as thats the closest we get locally to that old vintage 50`s feel!
Even when its busy (the last time we visited, a premiership football team were all drinking here) we still manage to find somewhere to sit and natter without having to shout or feel uncomfortable in anyway, for this place caters for an eclectic range of custom and nobody feels to old, young, intro/extroverted just stick on your best dress and enjoy the people watching, drinks and music!

This was a fantastic hotel. It was booked for a birthday celebration weekend and from the arrival to the end this was a wonderful stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was lovely, fitted to a very high standard and the bathroom was very generously sized and to a very high standard too. Complimentary tea and coffee supplies were ample and refreshed daily. There was a mini Bar and some snacks available at a charge in the room should you want them, and pricing was very clear and easy to understand. There was also a safe which was a good feature not found in many uk hotels.
The reception and bar area is very impressive, as I arrived there was a singer on in the bar and a really good atmosphere around, without being too noisy or intrusive.
We opted for breakfast and this didnt disappoint either-everything you could possibly imagine in the buffet, and very friendly staff once again. I'm from Liverpool and it was nice to see staff were local, hopefully giving a good impression of our city!
There is nothing negative I could say about this stay at all and would not hesitate to stay again.

Fabulous location right next to Liverpool 1 shopping centre and Albert Dock. Lovely decor and nicely appointed rooms. Very comfortable beds, nice breakfast with good selection.

However, on Friday and Saturday nights the lobby and bar turns into a nightclub with a DJ and very, very loud music between 8.00 pm and 2.00 am. Which is fine if that"s what you"re after but not good if you want to relax, have a conversation or have children with you. Lots of drunk people around.

I understand that the Hotel no doubt makes a lot of money from the local clientele but as a Guest in a 4 star hotel one expects to be able to use the bar and restaurant without being surrounded by drunks, bouncers and pounding music.

It is such a shame because other than that the hotel was really nice. I would imagine that this would not impact on Business users only weekend visitors.

I stayed here for the weekend in February and never again. From the outside it looks lovely but that is very decieving. The rooms are small, old fashioned, smell musty and just what i didnt expect for the Hilton. I have stayed in many hotels in Liverpool as it's just a great place to visit and other hotels have been far superior for a much cheaper price. Shame on the hilton.

I have stayed here quite a few times before and think its ideally placed for shoppin followed by a nice meal/drinks. Slight issue with checking in as it only showed we had one room booked on their computer (not 2 which we had booked with last minute), but staff sorted it out pretty quickly. Rooms are always the same standard which is pretty good compared to a few hiltons I have stayed in. Party doing on down stairs , couldn't hear a think in our rooms.
Breakfast has got far more organised from last time and was lovely.
Carpark is the main carpark at Liverpool one but is only a 2 minute walk & you get a voucher from the hotel to get it cheaper.
Overall perfect for seeing Liverpool by day & night.

The service at Hilton its nice, very helpful and kind at the reception, and wonderful at the hotel's restaurant as well.

But I have few comments about the room we had. We had booked a room at high floor, with front view of the river, however it was meant to be smoking room and at arrival it appeared as it wasn't what left us with no choice to swap it. Instead we got a second floor room with the most unwanted view you may wish for - into police headquarters across the street, which was described as our best choice. Unfortunately we could not complaint about that issue as we booked our room directly at Hilton's website.

Im sure many customers suffered parking issue at the Hilton as well. Well at the hotel they informed us that customers must park at the underground parking nearby, which is just normal pay and display. There is no refund for the tickets and that car park its just one of the city centre paid cpark for anybody. The only thing is that Hilton customers park at designated side, with Hilton hotel directions. But be prepared for dragging your luggage all the way through car park to the hotel yourself. We spoke to security because there is a small secured hotel car park just right outside the hotel entrance and they said that this car park its only for blue badge holders, however you will see no blue badges but some super-cars of some super-reach clients instead. We didn't give up and they ended us letting us park outside as well.

Coming back to the room. As I mentioned the view we head was nothing of what we expected at that location. The rooms were really smelling of cigarettes and smoke, even before we got in, the whole floor seemed to smell like a pub and it must be ventilation issue. Instead they plugged airwick refreshener, which in some sense did help a little. Don't get me wrong there is always choice of the non smoking and smoking rooms and I have never seen smoking room actually physically smelling of a smoke. There was issue with bathroom the water stream was very slow, but water wasn't flowing down as bath seemed to be undrained and it was hard to take a shower. Inside the wardrobe rail to hang clothes was completely damaged and broken, im surprised that it was unnoticed while was cleaned. And the phone inside the room wasn't working so we couldn't report the problem strait away. The funny thing, the toilet was mounted into wall so high that while sitting on it my feet would be in the air lol. Overall décor its quite basic and room was very dark, but I would expect more from Hilton. At night there was a party going on downstairs at the hotel, the music was so loud that we could hear it on the second floor, what was disturbing during our sleep. Beds however were quite comfortable.

Location its brilliant, right across the street, there is a riverside with variety of restaurants and few local attractions. Behind hotel its city centre also fool of restaurants, shops and things to do.

In honesty we are not a fussy people at all, but if we were to come back to Liverpool we would pay a bit more and stay in better hotel. For this price we paid we were not satisfied with the choice.

At the end due to all inconvenience of quality of our room we were given nice breakfast, and even though the kitchen was about to close the staff cooked something for us and served us in really nice manner, however future discount or voucher would be better resolution for such a big name hotel and such a number of inconvenience.

Room Tip: Ask for nice riverside view on high floor, or state it at your booking and make sure you ll be given...
