We ate here on Saturday night at 9pm, the place was packed and very lively. There were 4 of us and we ordered drinks and starters and all food was tasty. Then main courses came and again none of us had any complaints. The staff were great to us and we had the same waiter as a couple of weeks earlier, Mario, who looked after us very well.
This place is more about the buzz than the food, but this doesn't mean the food is not good, it is as good as any other Italian in Liverpool. Fun and lively.

How corny was the title.........fortunately the venue is not.

Our lunchtime visit was efficient, attentive and polite. Our food was lovely and served with panache .

In fact the experience added to our visit to Liverpool ,which was great,we will return very soon.

Decided to do a night stop over ....we will book into San Carlo for an evening meal.

We eat here last night having stumbled upon it by chance, on what seemed a very quiet night elsewhere. Inside was buzzing ! Great and typical Italian decor.
Waiting staff were friendly , helpful , but a bit rushed in their delivery. We have found this in nearly all Italian restaurants, so it seems a bit "wheel 'em in - wheel 'em out " . However, when we slowed the pace...they were fine .
Food was seemingly very good...we enjoyed the meal. The wine was a bit expensive, so we chose the second cheapest and it was very nice ( but at £21.90 ! ). I had the mushrooms in a filo basket , which were tasty but a bit oily. I then followed with the Scallops Gratin....lovely taste and tender, but on closer inspection they seemed a little under-cooked ( a bit blue and opaque in colour) which wasn't easy to detect because of the cheese sauce.
The meal was expensive in comparison to others , at £93 for two (inc tip) for two courses, wine and coffees, plus a Cointreau . We didn't feel it was worth that much , frankly.
Unfortunately , I had a severe reaction the following morning ( no details needed !!! ) which may have been indicative of my reservations about the scallops...but fair's fair ....we had eaten elsewhere during our 3 day stay...so nothing proven. My partner's meal was fine and no adverse reaction afterwards.
All in all....it was ok....fun , friendly and busy atmosphere in comfortable surroundings...bit pricey though.
