“fantastic value for money”
Reviewed 26 December 2013

Brilliant location, less than 5 mins walk into centre of Liverpool, and surrounded by some great pubs/restaurants too! The building itself has been tastefully restored and has a great feel to it. Rooms are really clean and quite luxurious, beds really comfy, shower huge and powerful, great hair drier and iron/board in room too along with a small kitchenette. The staff we met were really helpful and friendly! Would definitely use this hotel again.

We've stayed here for 5 nights.
24h reception, always friendly and helpful. One can ask'em anything.

Perfectly located to go wherever you want: the docks, shopping @ Liverpool One, Chinatown - everything seems to be just round the corner!

Great rooms - I love the bathrooms.
The little kitchen is very useful and you have got lots of space to put all your stuff in your room with even a big seat, table an a large bed.

Just try it out by yourself, you'll be happy :-)

Staff's very friendly as well as they're at the reception.

I booked this hotel for a 3 night stay in Liverpool after reading comments on TripAdvisor and was not disappointed.
Brilliant budget friendly hotel - clean, new and even though the room was small it was extremely comfortable. The bed linen was crisp, the towels awesome and the kitchenette allowed us to have a meal or snack in our room instead of going out. The bathroom was excellent - roomy, modern and clean.
The location of this hotel could not have been better. It is within walking distance of the best shops in the city and close to all public transport.
Highly recommended - will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in a room that faced the courtyard and didn't hear any noise at all.

I stayed here in the secret Garden suite in December with my mother for three nights. Thankfully, this was being offered as two nights free due to an error that occurred with a previous booking where my card had been charged despite having cancelled the booking.

Given that this is the best room on offer, I was left with mixed feelings. I will start with the positive, of which in fairness there are actually more than the negatives. Without doubt the location is very good. Very near to Liverpool one, Liverpool lime Street and only a minutes walk to a big Tesco's. The staff were friendly enough during our stay. We arrived before our room was ready and were told to help ourselves to coffee in the living area. Unfortunately the coffee machine was not working during the hour that we waited.

The secret Garden Suite itself was actually quite nice. We had the room set up to have two single beds in the upstairs area. There is plenty of space to dress and a desk to do any work on. The safe is an excellent idea of keeping valuables when going out. It was great to have the room serviced on a daily basis and to get fresh towels toiletries and coffee and tea. The coffeemaker was lovely too.

The sitting area downstairs was quite pleasant. Having a big TV in the living room and bedroom was also a bonus. Given that we were there in the winter when it gets dark early it was a real shame that none of the lights in the garden were working. This actually made it quite dangerous to use at night time. As we were out most of these days this meant that we weren't able to use it. We reported this and were told someone would come and look at it. after two hours wait I went to check on this and a staff member returned with me. He checked the switch which I had already checked just said oh yes their not working. He went outside and looked and said they must be broken. There was no offer to get them repaired although he did say that he could get some more candles ( we had had to use one just to see when you get out there). This was quite a big disappointment given that it was one of the main reasons why we wanted the
Secret garden suite. It would have proved a health and safety risk to use the suite

It was nice to be able to open the doors to the garden to get some fresh air which I understand is not an option of the rooms. Had we been paying the normal rate for this room I think I would've been actually quite disappointed. I have stayed in other serviced apartments in Liverpool that work out more reasonable and have much better facilities. The bonuses, things like the minikitchen, the location and having the room service on a daily basis where indeed good and would influence me as to whether I will stay there in a standard room with in the future.

We are coming again in February to Liverpool and I did look into prices are base to say. However I found that base to stay were actually more expensive than the room we have booked at Premier Inn at the Albert Dock. The rooms in the premier inn are actually bigger than the standard at bast to stay and with having immediate access to a bar and restaurant in the hotel and very nice views this is the one that will be opting for. Overall, it was a good experience given the goodwill gesture it was offered upon but I can't see is returning in the future and would certainly not pay the price for the secret Garden suite.

Dear Nandoland,
I am sorry that our Secret Garden Suite did not give you the anticipated wow factor. It is our largest room here at base2stay, and as you state has plenty of space, including guest cloakroom, dressing area, large bathroom and lounge/dining area. We offer a hotel service, rather than a serviced apartment service, so will always offer full service in all of our rooms, including daily maid service, 24 hour Reception and Concierge and enhanced media and IT facilities. I am glad that you enjoyed this, as well as the Nespresso coffee machine in our Secret Garden Suite. The Secret Garden does have adequate lighting, and is fully operational. I understand our Maintenance Engineer had to replace a light fitting within the decked area that had been waterlogged during the bad rain. This, unfortunately, tripped the garden lighting as a precautionary measure. With regard to rates, we are always extremely competitive, and in addition to offering a higher level of service, style and design than found in budget hotels. We are also located right in the heart of the city, one of the reasons for not having our own restaurant and bar. This gives our guests access to 15 restaurants within 2 minutes walk, rather than 1 option. We do hope that you choose to return to base2stay.
Regards

Stayed for a three day city visit. Booked for location close to station, ease of access to public transport, facilities for freedom eating and positive reviews. Not disappointed. It matched up to all the positive reviews and in some little touches it exceeded. Never been to a hotel before where if you didn't like the pillows you had a choice of five other types through reception. A switch at the side of the bed where you could switch the bathroom light on without disturbing other people sleeping. Good quality bath/shower with soap and gel.
The hotel is in clubland with many bars. There were christmas parties going on yet in our room on the third floor it was peace and quiet. Never heard any noise from any other rooms. In most hotels you will hear flushing loos and the like but not here. The staff were young, polite and helpful. Everywhere we went in the hotel was spotless.
Adjoining the hotel in Concert St was a Weatherspoons pub, The Lime Kiln. They opened at 10 am when you could buy a good selection of breakfast and served meals until 11pm. I am a fan of Wetherspoons and so this was an unexpected bonus.
Liverpool One shopping area was a 5 min walk along with the majority of city buses. Central station was also 5 min away with access to mersey rail metro. 10 min walk was Lime St station in one direction and Albert dock in the other. The Anglican Cathederal and the adjoining chinese quarter is about 15 min walk from the hotel.
Would not recommend if travelling by car as parking appeared very expensive if any available.

Having stayed in all the hotels in Liverpool, other than the budget ones, I was desperate to try this place out. Having cost us £223 for two nights, I was expecting it to be on a par with most of the other hotels. On the plus side, location was great. We were right on top of the nightlife, but the excellent double glazing kept all the sound out. There was free coffee and lovely towels. The staff were not friendly compared to all the other hotels and the room was tiny. Not value for money at all. It was great to have a microwave fridge and kettle but I had to use the bed as a work top if I needed to do anything. You couldn't walk around in the room easily and only one of you could move around at a time. The beds were ok but the pillows were hard. It was really great to get the room serviced and washing up done as well but I won't be returning. Goodness knows how much an average size room costs ! Cannot understand how one site voted it number one in the city ! I would put it in the bottom half, considering all the others I have stayed in there. Tiny, tiny room !

Dear Dalymum, I'm really sorry that you were disappointed with your stay with us, especially about your comments about our team. We usually receive such positive feedback about the friendliness and efficiency of our Reception team, so can only apologise that we did not connect with you during your stay. All of the team work hard to ensure that they keep up to date, and have the best knowledge of the city to make sure that you get the best our of your time in Liverpool.
I would be grateful if you could confirm which room you stayed in. We have a huge range of rooms from Super Singles, which are our smallest rooms for one, through to our largest Deluxe and Studio rooms which are extremely spacious. With regard to rates, we are always highly competitive on rate. Weekends, especially Saturdays, are Liverpool's busiest times, so sometimes carry a higher tariff. On other occasions, you would be able to book a deluxe room with a huge amount of space and larger bathroom from £89 per night. We also offer a choice of pillows, from feather & down to hollow fibre - again, we didn't take the chance to connect with you to communicate this.
Thank you for your kind comments about our location and other services. I do hope that you choose to return to us, and give us a chance to impress.

Best regards

Andrew

Booked this hotel for 16 of us for our Christmas trip to Liverpool, what an absolute gem of a hotel, super central to where we wanted to be, Concert Square, Mathew Street. The staff were great and the hotel is really secure, access at night only by using your keycard. The rooms were fabulous, fridge in teh room was a brilliant idea. Booked in advance so got a great deal on the rooms.

Definitely plan to go back next summer and take the hubby.
Good job guys! Loved it!!
