I've often stayed at this Hotel. On the plus side, it's in a great location on the Albert Dock- central for so many Liverpool attractions. The building itself is quite spectacular- the Hotel is one of the old brick warehouses which have been very sympathetically refurbished. This means that the corridors are wide, the rooms quite a reasonable size, the walls solid, and it doesn't feel like a 'chain' hotel because of the architecture. It is usually quiet also, which is a big plus for such a central location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However, I have noticed the price seems to be creeping ever higher without the facilities to go with this. My last visit coincided with a very cold spell in the UK, and boy, did this indicate some issues. The heating in the bedrooms is totally inadequate- just one rather ancient wall mounted radiator, and since the windows are not really double glazed (just a second set of ill fitting single glazed windows about 6inches away from the first) there was not much of a barrier to the cold outside air. Until another guest gave me the tip to ask for another 'key' so that I could keep the electricity active in the room while I was out, I usually had to wear outdoor clothes for some time until the room temperature crept up to anything approaching comfortable. There is no heating in the shower room at all, so you have to psyche yourself up to have a shower! The breakfast, included in the price, is OK though far from exciting. I would rather pay less for the room and go elsewhere for breakfast. With new Hotels seeming to pop up all the time in Liverpool I think the Holiday Inn needs to spend a little money on this one otherwise we loyal customers may move somewhere warmer.
