Owner description: Sudley House has been described as a hidden gem. Tucked away in leafy suburbs, Sudley is the only house of a Victorian merchant that still has its original pictures, including works by Millais, Turner and Rossetti, and with beautiful period furniture, carpets and wallpaper it doesn't feel like a regular gallery. There is also a childhood room, a small world room and a costume room, which often house temporary displays, and tearooms. Admission is free.

“Yes, it's a hidden gem”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

In a city filled with great things to see and do, this is one of my favourites. I always try to visit when I'm there. As other reviewers have noted, it truly is a hidden gem.

Great little place - well worth a visit.

Nice to stroll around, relaxed atmosphere....staff are happy to assit with any questions about the history of the building.

Also, great to take children as they have an art room too.

Pleasant Cafe, you can eat in or out doors, wide selection of food/drinks.

“Small but perfectly formed - try to catch a guided tour”
Reviewed 13 April 2013

One of Liverpools many cultural gems
Sudley was the home of a Cotton merchant with plenty of money and bags of good taste.
A private collection that tells a fascinating tale of the life and times of the Holt Family.
A lovely activity room for young children - our (nearly) two year old grand daughter loves going there. The glass sided lift is the only modern touch, bu one she finds fascinating
Try to time your visit to co-incide with one of the guided tours which take place during quieter times. We went to a very illuminating one on the Pre-Raphaelites recently which was led by one of the gallery stewards - very knowledgable and fun to listen to. Highly recommended!

“A Day off work”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

What could be a better prospect for starting the week than knowing that one doesnt have to work tomorrow and can stroll over to Sudley on a quiet Monday morning and enjoy a wonderful couple of hours there admiring the art as well as the furnishings and costume.
I am so pleased that the Leader painting "Evening at Norton" is back on display after renovation. One of my favourites amongst so many.
With economic pressures ever increasing it is vital that local and visiting people take the time to go there to enjoy this haven.Lets use it not lose it.
