Owner description: The original Liverpool Philharmonic Hall opened on 27 August 1849, and was an acclaimed and integral part of the cultural life of Liverpool before being dramatically destroyed by fire in 1933.The present day art-deco Philharmonic Hall, designed by architect Herbert Rowse and built on the same site, was officially opened on Monday 19 June 1939. Today it presents on average 250 events each year, of which approximately 70 are concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and sells over 250,000 tickets annually. The venue has an illustrious tradition of bringing the top names from rock, jazz, classical, folk and roots, classical and contemporary music to Liverpool. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Buddy Holly all appeared at the Hall during their careers. The Hall also hosts classic and blockbuster films and premieres, shown on the unique Walturdaw rising cinema screen with Merseyside's only resident theatre organist, Dave Nicholas, and houses the delightfully intimate and informal Rodewald Suite, with its own entrance on Sugnall Street, which, with its cabaret seating, in-house bar and rooftop terrace, is home to the popular After 8 series of jazz, roots and unplugged gigs. Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with schools and the community since the 1940s, and the Learning programme now offers a range of exciting and inspirational opportunities to get involved in live music-making of the highest quality for thousands of people every year in the Hall and throughout the region.

“Home from Home”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

We started our evening with some food in the bistro downstairs and a nice cup of tea. The support act Colin Chisholm was excellent and when Don Williams came on you could hear a pin drop. No mistaking his voice, like velvet. He did a good show but didnt hang around for a meet and greet. The merchandise was over-priced which was also a bit disappointing.
We had a good meet and greet in the interval with Colin and actually bought 2 of his cd's.
I have been a fan of Don all my life and have seen him before. A bit more thought for the fans would be nice. They must have wasted a lot of expensive programmes as people just didnt buy them.

“Christmas Spectacular - its in the title!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Took our Ukrainian visitors to this wonderful venue for the Xmas spectacular towards the end of 2013. Acoustics were just amazing and it turned about to be a wonderful experience for them over the festive season. Will certainly be making it a regular experience.

“Micheal Bolton”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Was shocked that he was only actually on stage for 60 mins of 90 minute act! But spoilt that the venue let people come and go throughout the performance, so forever standing up or people standing in front of us. As in other venues, should not let people join until "breaks in performance"

“The Seekers 50th Anniversary World Tour”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

Such a memorable concert in every way. Judith Durham's perfect voice coupled with the wonderful accoustics of this fabulous venue where, no matter where you sit, every note can be heard. Seating was fine even though we were right at the back. The encore of The Carnival is Over was so poignant and brought a tear to my eye. Liverpool is such a vibrant city. Parking is free on the local roads affter 6 o'clock.

I have been to some wonderful concerts by the RLPO. but had the privilege of singing here recently. It should certainly not be missed and is one of Liverpool's many varied cultural experiences
