“Good location”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

We booked with a voucher for a couple of nights Monday 17th march st patricks day very busy checking in we tried to check in with code on our phones but reception told us we had to send them an email which was a bit of a pain but once we checked in room was clean and reasonably large with a four poster bed which was a nice surprise although wifi did not work in room the router was broken food was adequate but the service good. Great location for the city centre and nightlife the large lounge area was closed off for the whole of our stay don't know why would stay again

Hello and thankyou for your comments after staying with us last week. Unfortunately we do need an email with voucher bookings as this is the hotels confirmation for payment. I am sorry the wifi did not work in your room, but having had another comment on the wifi, I believe we may have had a problem with it over that few days as complimentary wifi is available throughout the hotel including the 402 bedrooms. The lounge was closed for a film crew who were filming a fantastic drama being televised in the autumn, I do apologise for any inconvenience this caused.

Arrived with a group on Monday 17 march . Checked in. On taking a shower found 2 cockroaches in bottom of bath , (second floor small double) . Told reception , moved to fourth floor . Paper hanging off ceiling . Unwatchable tv ( old and no sky or internet ) not a single teaspoon all week even though room was for 3 . Asked maid for a spoon , got one but it was taken out on cleaning . ( if that's what they call it ) . Guests restricted on movement around hotel due to film crew being in . Health and safety was nil with cables trailing everywhere uncovered . Lifts had a mind of their own . Food just about edible on some days . Breakfast items not replenished one morning so no toast or eggs . .meal times far too late . Overall a very run down , tired hotel , I believe Deborah meaden from dragons den is a shareholder in this group , she should be ashamed to be associated with them .

Hello and thankyou for your comments following your stay with us last week. I do apologise that you did not enjoy your stay here. There was a film crew filming in reception area and whilst there was some incovenience to guests the majority did enjoy the experience and are looking forward to watching the drama on TV in the autumn. Breakfast items are replenished frequently, as are lunch and dinner dishes, so I cannot understand why you would say they were not. Dining times are arranged with your tour operator and it is up to them to let us know what time they would like their guests to dine. We are a privately owned hotel group with 47 hotels and 6 holiday parks and therefore have no shareholders or any connection whatsoever to Deborah Meaden.

we where given our room key on the bus saving us time at the checking in desk we where room 558 so we had to get the lift witch was for 14 people but would not go with over six people in. the room was dated chipped paint, wallpaper peeling off. the staff where not very polite when we went for our meal by just saying find a seat down there would NOT be going back there.

Room Tip: do not stay at the adelphi

Thank you for your comments after staying with us earlier this month. I am sorry you did not enjoy your time with us and would not choose to stay here again. This is very disappointing as National Holidays are one of our biggest clients and we do not normally receive complaints from their guests. I am sorry that on this occasion we did not meet with your expectations.

Went for 5 days with group of 14 friends. We had very good, cheap deal and, due to price, did not expect much, were just hoping for comfortable beds and clean bathrooms but we were pleasantly surprised. While some of the (twin) rooms were larger than others they were all more than adaquate; excellent soundproofing as purpose built as a hotel many years ago when walls were good and solid. Rooms also had inner and outer doors so no noise from corridors. Bathrooms mainly had large bath and shower and were also proper rooms with windows.
Food was very good, buffet breakfast and dinner, as much as you wanted to eat - bit of a scrum at breakfast but friendly staff had even organised large table for our group at dinner, waiting for us on first evening without us even asking.
The public rooms were elegant, although slightly faded, but somehow this enhanced it. The gym was fine but the pool area was in need of a makeover, missing and very worn tiling but it was OK and at £10 for as much use as you liked for your entire stay, was good value.
All the staff were friendly and helpful although overworked, especially in the dining rooms.
The situation of the hotel cannot be bettered, bang in the centre of the city, within walking distance of most of the attractions; although next to the station there was no train noise but the downside of the central position was noise from the street, but what do you expect? This is a listed building so cannot be soundproofed like a modern hotel.
Must also say that there was a really good wifi signal in my 4th floor room.

All in all, great value for money.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near lift as lift noise is audible, including automated voice, going up, going down etc.

We stayed there on Monday 17th March, we were pleasantly surprised by the olde world charm. Staff were so courteous and polite, it was a pleasure. We too stayed on the 5th floor, our room was clean, tidy and airy. We have stayed at all levels of hotels from a 5* mid town Manhattan luxury hotel , to a 2* Greek hotel, therefore I believe I am able to pass an unbiased opinion on the Adelphi, and that it was excellent value for money in all aspects. My only criticism, was that Hercule Poirot didn't walk down the stairway to the foyer. We will certainly be staying here on our return from holiday in April/May, but longer this time.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the car park at the rear of the hotel. Next time, we will ask for a room o...

Agreat value two night stay with evening meal on the first night, however £12 a night parking to pay which we weren't aware of until on the day of arrival.
The colleagues were friendly and helpful the room was clean and tidy, it's time the changing rooms and pool area needs some updating.the lounge area was very grand.the location was perfect to get to most areas on foot, and some lovely areas to visit.food was fairly good.
The hotel got very busy at times with coach trips arriving and long queues at the lifts.
Overall we enjoyed our stay

Room Tip: Not near the lifts

We stayed here on a National Coach trip recently. As this is one of hotels they are proud to use and always refer to it by name in their literature we were quite optimistic about it. It is true that from the outside, the building is beautiful. However, from the moment we entered the foyer it became apparent that the interior had been neglected for several decades. Our room, on the fifth floor, was very dated and the decor / sanitary ware was in very poor condition. It was mentioned by a few of us from our party that if we had paid the price quoted at the check in desk, we would have been devastated.

The food was also very below what we expected. The choices for evening meal were limited and we were rushed through the self service canteen style restaurant. My fish was clearly frozen and had been sat in the Bain Marie for some time, as indeed had the potatoes.

Next morning breakfast was a little better, although the cooked options were very fatty, and the deep fried sausages looked awful. I didn't dare try one!!

So, because we got our stay at a discounted price I give it two stars.

Very disappointing.
