“Hotel is great but a little tired”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

The Adelphi is a great hotel but is now due for a complete refurbishment as it is now showing its age. I know people will be slagging this hotel off but I love it as it something that the other hotels in Liverpool do not have, it has a little class and it is different.

I love the marble
I love the massive grand hall based on that in the Titanic with its massive chandeliers
I love its history
I love its location
I love the fact that the toilet and bathroom is miles away from your bedroom
I love the massively wide corridors
I love that I have never stayed anywhere like it.

Yes it is very dated and needs new everything. Yes the food is ok at very best and the parking is awful but it beats the new very similar hotels that you can stay at where each hotel, hotel room are identical to every other one you have stayed at.

I have always enjoyed my stay at the Adelphi, but it needs to be refurbished.

Hotel was the worst part of my trip to Liverpool. Expecting decent/ nice rooms upon arrival looking at sample pictures however we were shocked at the states of the room. It was old fashioned, dirty and had a funny smell. Not enjoyable.

Arrived on our booked date and expected rooms to have higher standards, as wallpaper and ceiling had patchy brown marks and to my disgust,I found a chip behind the radiator. Worth the money though if you are only looking for a bed for the night, apart from that, the staff were absolutely helpful and was willing to help with anything which made our stay a lot better and great location!: close to the train station (about 2 mins away) and close to the city centre (about 5-10 mins away)

Our room smelled like stale cigarettes, there were big stains on the carpet, the mattress was so thin you could roll it up, walls and ceilings were peeling, couldn't connect to wifi...the list goes on. We go speak to the manager and show him pics of their ad on Hotels.com saying we thought we were getting nice rooms like these- he says those are not pics of his hotel, they don't have those rooms. He also told us we can check out if we want, that he can rent that room out that night for £200 since it was a football night. He eventually changed our room for us, which was only about 2% better. We were too scared to sleep under the covers (didn't trust the bedding to be clean), and so shivered on top of the bed covered in my sweater the whole night. The only good thing about this hotel was that it's close to the train station.

Just returned from a week at the Adelphi, after waiting over 30 minutes to check in, we found our own way to our room, no directions, and no info regarding breakfast times and hotel facilities. No booklet in room.
The room was very dilapidated , stained carpets and furniture tops. But the beds and towels were both clean. The buffet breakfast was excellent hot and tasty. We will return to the Adelphi when revisiting Liverpool.

Room Tip: We were 4th, side of hotel, no tips to reveal.

Travelling to Liverpool for the first time and opting to stay here despite the many negative reviews I entered the grand building with some trepidation.

Yes as previous visitors say - the hotel is in major need of updating. Our room on the 3rd floor was spacious if a little dated but it was clean and the bed was comfy. We stayed on the Dinner, B&B rate (a bargain by the way) Breakfast is buffet style and there is lots of it - the staff are always filling up the trays so if there isn't much bacon there will be some on the way - just be a little patient lol. Dinner buffet had soup starter, 3/4 options for mains and cakes for desert and was nice. There is a restaurant alternative if you prefer a more formal meal.

There is an on site bar which is very cheap especially during happy hour which lasted from 11am - 8pm for residents !

For a base it was absolutely fine - it is not a 5 star but does not claim to be (there are lots of those at triple the cost if you prefer) It does cater for large coach parties and check in was rather slow. Yes the carpets are terribly stained and the whole place could do with a good paint but the location was great - the hop on/off buses are literally on the door step and you are within 10 min walk to the shops and centre.

I would stay here again - maybe upgrade to and exec room next time.

Room Tip: smoking and non smoking floors available. Maybe upgrade from a standard room ??
