We recently spent 3 days in the dreadful hotel. From the outside it looks very impressive, and the entrance and reception is very smart, but then it goes down hill badly. The two lifts struggle to work and when we reached the 4th floor, its was awful, peeling wallpaper, torn carpets, peeling paint. The room was terrible, scruffy furniture, matress with the springs stiking out, wallpaper hanging off the wall, and torn curtains, and the floor did'nt look like it had been cleaned for a month, windows full of dirt/mould and chairs with torn coverings. T V which did'nt work. We did look into changing rooms but the alternative was even worse, but they did change the matress. Thought we'd have a swim but was told we would have to pay £5 each to use the leisure facilities, which it did not state anywhere. The food , well, do even go there, it states carvery, but just an anemic piece of rolled turkey, and only 1 slice permitted or sausage casserole, and breakfast the following morning just as bad, and although we'd pre-paid ofr the food we choose to eat out, this is the worse hotel I have ever stayed in and we have contacted Britannia with our complaints but they promised to give a reply within 14 days, but we;re still waiting, would go to Liverpool again as its a wonderful place, but WONT be staying at the Adelphi

The Adelphi Hotel was booked for us as a surprise , but after reading some reviews I was worried , we contacted the manager who replied very promptly and confidently . The hotel staff were genuinely friendly and helpful from the moment we left , with nothing being to much trouble . The food was very good the wine was nice and considering the building is nearly 100 years old they have done a good job of maintaining the building without altering the character . Our whole experience of Liverpool was great and we look forward to revisiting .

Booked the Adelphi on the last minute (all the other city hotels where booked up). We got a decent deal, but was worried about reviews and nearly canceled at last minute. Fair enough the hotel is not the grand lady it was, but for what we paid for two nights I haven't got any genuine complaints. Check in was smooth, we got a room on the 5th floor which had just been decorated and a new carpet laid, the room was a bit small, but we checked the bathroom and it was spotless, bed was comfortable enough and we had no problems with noise, room service was about average for a busy Saturday night. There was a few Christmas parties going on in the function rooms which added to the atmosphere of the hotel. I can only speak for my experience at this hotel and overhaul I had no issues, and for what we needed, a concert in the University and a train in the morning, it done the job. We never had breakfast, we used the Witherspoons around the corner which was a bargain, compared to the hotel price.

We stayed between Christmas & New Year taking advantage of the special “Twixmus” package (£111 half board for two people (top two floor’s normal room) or £171 for a suite this was the price for 3 days for both of us– quite a bargain !!!)

We chose the suite and were really lucky to be allocated one of the two palatial suites with a big bedroom, our own sitting room with armchairs TV and dining table and big bathroom connected by our own corridor. We were at the front on the second floor – it’s quite noisy at weekends until the early hours with pubs & clubs nearby, but there is double glazing, but no air conditioning.

These suites are on the lower floors with marble corridors and were used by the wealthy passengers when they disembarked from their liners many years ago.

As I have written before the main reason to stay at the Adelphi is the building, really fascinating – not only the bedroom with original fittings but also the public areas – if you want 4 or 5 star luxury then stay elsewhere.

I have stayed here before and the service has certainly improved – the staff were smiling and helpful and the restaurant was well organised both for dinner and breakfast – they had big coach parties in, but organised their meals elsewhere in the building.

The food is wholesome – both dinner & breakfast is self service, with a carvery for dinner – its not very luxurious, but for the price we paid, very good value.

We used the swimming pool each day – it’s the original that’s been modernized – it’s a good size and clean and warm – note though that you have to pay a charge of £5 per stay for the use of the health club.

Free wireless internet is available in the public areas and supposedly on the first floor – it certainly worked very well in the magnificent lounge.

The Adelphi is very well positioned next to Lime Street station and about a 10 minute walk to the main shops and the Mersey.

So if you want an interesting stay and get a good price this is the hotel for you – if you want luxury there are plenty of new hotels springing up in Liverpool.

We have just returned from a weekend break to liverpool we stayed at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel This hotel brought back memories of a past era but sadly today it is in a discusting state, dirty poor food and a lift system that takes you on a mistery tour. The staff are not at all helfull.
I Could not understand how it aquired a 3* rating as I have been in better places with no stars at all.
Would not recomend anybody to stay at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel.
