Reviewed 11 August 2014

As a relatively frequent visitor to Liverpool, I would heartily recommend The Liner. It is well located, near Lime St Stn, and within minutes you can be in the city centre, Liverpool One, the docks, or the universities. There is parking - sometimes I wonder if there will be space for me in the busy (partly public) car park, but somehow there is always a spot left!
The rooms are the expected size for an urban hotel. They are very clean, with all that one expects - comfortable bed, tea and coffee, very pleasant bathroom. The views can be a bit hit and miss, but I have discovered a previously undiscovered fondness for seagulls. Having spent more time than is logical watching them from my room at The Liner, I have come to appreciate they are far more intelligent and entertaining than pigeons, canaries, etc etc.
The public areas are very good, clean and oddly uplifting. There is a huge aquarium shared between the lobby and the restaurant, a large breakfast room, a bar and whatnot. The overall impression is the right sort of cheerfulness - not so much that you want to scream, but just enough to make a good start to the day.
Breakfast could be a little better, but it is plentiful and very busy. The conference room always seems busy for local breakfast meetings, which seems like a good sign. The restaurant food is good - not haute cuisine but priced appropriately.
The staff are very pleasant, helpful, and seems quite hard-working. Nothing is too much trouble, whether it is more coffee at midnight, a fan for a wilting guest, or helping with bags.
Nice to see a good independent hotel.

Room Tip: Check out the good dining deals

This place far exceeded our expectations, we've stayed in various L' pool hotels and we'll definitely be booking The Liner again, great location, helpful and polite staff, we got a great deal through an on-line link plus we were upgraded, odd numbers on 4th floor overlook the train station and even numbers are much quieter. We had 416 which was light and pleasant and also has a bath, which is a plus. Breakfast was lovely, fresh and plentiful, could do with a hot water urn for the tea only people as it seems one machine does the whole hit...teas and coffee's which meant a line up starts to form, not a complaint by the way, but an observation and a quick fix solution?! Some really good food deals here too, also the parking is free and situated right beside the hotel.

Thank you to all the staff & management at The Liner hotel for making our 3day stay for my birthday treat on 5/8/14 so very enjoyable. Our lovely room on the 4th floor & wonderful king size bed made our stay most comfortable. Everyone was so helpful from reception to restaurant & bar staff it was a pleasure to stay and we will certainly recommend this hotel to all our friends & family. The hotel is so convenient for the train into Lime Street train station it's just a 5minute walk away & also the Empire Theatre is just at the end of the road too. Also a short walk away from the Walker Art Gallery and the newly finished Libray a must see when visiting Liverpool wow !!! There is also the City Link bus service at a most reasonable cost of £3.00 a day hop on & off to all the attractions really good for those who can't walk too far.
A Big Thank You From Margaret and John White (Nottingham)

At least once a year I like to go to Liverpool with relatives to stay and we always stay at The Liner. Whether as a couple, family or with friends it has delivered at all times. Most recent trip was for two nights and we wished we had more time to stay longer. The access to the free at park is a plus as whenever we park on their we know the car is safe. Check in was quick and easy as booked through a second party to get the best deal. The deals The Liner do are good value but a cheaper deal means more money to spend. Room was a twin on deck 3 and it was good. We faced out towards the front of the hotel and a window could be opened. Yes the lovely seagulls sound like they are laughing all the time but you would not know it was so close to the train station. First night we ate in the seven seas brasserie and let's put it this way so good was it we would not really eat anywhere else. All freshly cooked and delicious, can highly recommend the lasagne. So big were the portions I struggled to eat it all, but wanted to because it was so yummy. Night sleep was ok, you never sleep well when not in your own bed. Breakfast was fantastic. Full choice and can have as much as you like. Sets you up for the day as 5 minute work to the town, about 15 to get to Liverpool one and about 20 to get to Albert Dock. Be warned all directions are shops so can take a bit longer whilst window shopping. Second night we chose to eat in hotel again and we made use of the pre show menu. 3 courses for less than £15 is amazing. As a base for venturing out in the north west you can not fault it. 30 minutes from Cheshire Oaks, Warrington, Southport and Chester. Shopping heaven for women armed with husbands money! The cost of 2 night 3 day trip with breakfast, evening meals and drinks for less than £170 for a twin room is brilliant. We will definitely continue to stay here and recommend to others.
If I was to be really critical a couple if points that may need to be thought about. Other reviewers say about the mattresses on the beds. If you are used to sleeping on memory foam then they are soft and can feel bumpy. Maybe some could do with replacing. Another minor point is the size of the cups in the rooms and breakfast restaurant. They hold about 4 gulps of tea. Take mugs f or the rooms as plenty of tea and coffee and have extra breakfast as surely getting up and down to refill the tea cup is a form of exercise?

Room Tip: Facing the front as would not know the train station is so close.

Nice stay at this hotel three days ago.
Very conveniently placed hotel, walking distance from Liverpool Lime Street Station.
Went to Liverpool for a course and this is where the participants stay.
Arrived quite late in the evening and decided to have room service for a club sandwich which when it arrived appeared to have been prepared by two 5 year old children.
Very disappointing appearance
I'm quite sure i will be back in Liverpool (and staying at The Liner) again but i will not be ordering room service again.
i am happy to pay the extra monies that room service obviously incurs but i have an an expectation of quality every time.
Other than that very comfortable room, nice size, the WiFi worked brilliantly and there were very helpful staff on the front desk, and in the dining hall for breakfast.
Good choice of food for breakfast hot and cold, no one could come away complaining of feeling hungry,
It was quite warm and the fan which was already in the room, was sufficient to keep the temperature to a level that was comfortable.
I was on the sixth floor and i couldn't hear the announcements from the train station on my side of the hotel however the seagulls made sure that you felt you were walking up by the seaside each morning.
:-)

Room Tip: The Room Service Club Sandwiches order are nothing to write home about.

I was a bit worried about the potential for noisy nights, given the proximity to Lime Street Station, but there was no need to worry, I didn't hear a thing. And don't be put off by the fact that this hotel is a bit older than some others in the area. It's warm, welcoming and well looked after - and you will be, too. Everything was lovely, from check-in to check-out, thanks to friendly and helpful staff, great breakfasts and nice, well furnished rooms. Equally importantly, it's super-convenient for the city centre with everything it has to offer. And if you happen to be travelling by train, as I was, there's no need for a long wait for a taxi at the station or an expensive journey at the start and end of your trip. In fact, you couldn't really ask for more.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room to be on the safe side.
